Hello all. First post and I'm in a bit of a jam. First I need to correct something in the title of this post. I ran it out of "fuel" - it's a diesel not gas motor. I ran my JD 410 Backhoe dry on fuel this afternoon. My gauge said I had half a tank but I didn't. She was down to nothing. So I filled the tank plum full. Cranked and cranked. Wouldn't fire. I'm guessing I need to bleed the injector lines? Can any of you shed light on this process? Do I need to take the fuel filter off and fill it as well? I don't really know my way around this machine yet and I've had John Deere do the work that it previously needed. Serial number is 323146 to give you an idea of the year class of the machine.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can share.

There may be a little lever or bulb near the filter that you can pump?:)

EGON ...Thanks. I'll look around and see if anything sticks out. Do you know of any source online where a guy can get a blueprint of the system like a service or parts manual to look at free?

Check out the John Deer site. There may be some information there.:)

I got some for my tractor there but cannot remember how I did it.:eek:

I'll plead Old Age Memory Loss.:(

I have an older 310 and if I remember right there was a lever on the base that the fuel filter clips to. When you change the filter you give it a few pumps to purge the air out. I don't have the manual handy, so I going from memory.

The machine came without a manual and I downloaded it from the John Deere site. I think it was under $20 to buy the download and would be worth your while to get if you don't have one.

I just registered on the Deere site and am trying to find my way to a manual and parts catalog. They'd be good to have anyway. I appreciate the tip Ruren.

When I ran my 1983 JD 310 out I got lucky and it restarted. When I pulled the tank off of the 265 MF I primed it but in the end cracked open two lines untll they would leak when turning it over and got it running on two cylinders and then the other two came on line OK but I did have the skin off so it was easy to get to the injector lines.

The guy who sold us the backhoe started to tell how to prime it then just said DO NOT RUN it dry. :D

I lost the 12v to the shut off at the injector pump once and could not start it until I traced out that problem. On this older stuff I prefer the manual shut off.

I have a 410 with a slightly earlier serial number than yours and a Google search led me to a site called "Scribd" where I downloaded free PDF parts and service manuals. There are 6 files total and it's a military manual.

I haven't ran mine out of fuel yet but there is a manual prime lever on the side of my fuel pump.

Now, 2 questions for you or anyone with a similar machine. Does your manual friction clutch work or is it locked up like mine? I can only press the clutch pedal 1/2 way to the floor. Do your front and rear buckets seem kinda slow compared to the rest of the hydraulics? Front bucket dump time is listed as 1.3 seconds but I would guess mine is 4 seconds from one stop to the other.

Edit: I just went back to the site to see if I could find them again but had a difficult time because of my search words. I found them again by using.....JD 410

The downloads I'm finding on the Deere site are all over $100.00 each for parts and service manuals.
