I vote a old craigslist wood stove, then mod it to burn waste fuel oil(us tractor owners all have lot's of that don't we?). I am modding my shop stove this winter to burn oil and bought a new 55 gal drum from the COOP for $11 that has a clamp on lid. I already have it 1/3 full of waste oil.

That's an idea. maybe I could just buy a small waste oil furnace for the few times I would need it? Probably the cost is prohibitive?

As a side note with the waste oil burning. I was watching a youtube video the other day about building waste-oil furnaces for melting aluminum etc. Anyway, the guy was filtering his old oil using one of those 100 cup peculator coffee pots that had a fine mesh basket. In the top and out the bottom.Thought that was pretty smart and maybe cheaply acquired at a thrift store. Should get it filtered enough for most waste oil uses.

Just leaving a big chicken house fan running might keep the sweating down quite a bit.

Have you ever seen one of the original salamanders that didn't use electricity? You can pick them up cheap. Once you get them going they burn pretty clean, and boy do they ever get hot! You could probably mix waste oil with the kerosene. I ran across one years ago that had a 6' stack. It roared when it was going.

This is what I use to heat my insulated shop.

I bought it used 10 years ago, and have about $300 invested between the wood burning furnace and chimney pipe. The squirrel cage blower really moves the air...which is good and bad. Good because it circulates the warm air, bad because the cold air runs across the floor back to the stove. :)

But once she's got the shop warm..it's all good! My shop is 42' x 68' with 14' sidewalls and open trusses - 21' at the peak.

I would NEVER be able to warm the space if the building wasn't insulated. Oh I would have warm air blowing on my head, but my legs and feet would never warm.

If you can - insulate your space!!!
