In my opinion... a HST L2501 pulling a 5' or 6' bushhog is gonna be a dog especially on hills. I owned one. I have a L3301 now. The HST eats a lot of power. Nothing beats a gear drive tractor for bushhog work.

I still think you need something the size of L4701 or bigger. Especially if you want hydro and want to mow with it at a decent speed. Buy once cry once as they say.

Not too many people complain that they bought too big a tractor. After a while you may discover that a grapple would be a real back saver, or that you can save a ton of money buying round VS square bales. I really don't think you could go wrong with a 40-50 HP machine.
I never planned on doing a lot of the things that I do with my tractor, like unloading 2400 lbs pallets. Funny, life's like that.:)

My 2 cents worth is to listen to the guys telling you that the little L2501 is going to be too small. If you're only going to have one tractor, I'd encourage you to err on the side of larger, not smaller. I'm only sitting on 3 acres now, but we're in process of moving to larger acreage. After using my tractor here on the small place, I'm quite sure I wouldn't want to go any smaller at all. And I'm 37 hp (32 at pto), and with FEL, loaded rears and box blade on 3 pt, I'm sitting right at 6000 pounds. Mine's an HST, and last weekend I had NO problem mowing my neighbors unused corral with my 6' rotary cutter, and his weeds were pushing 7' high. I don't have any issues running a 6' rotary, but you definitely feel it when you lift it off the ground, I for sure wouldn't want to run it without the FEL on the front end for counter weight, and I wouldn't want a larger rotary on this chassis.

I'd look at larger tractors. Also, tractor weight, FEL capacity, and at least as much pto hp as the biggest attachment you ever think you may want. Some of the "large" CUTs have surprisingly small FEL capacities, and low chassis weights. More weight is better imho.

That has been on CL for a while....wonder if it is overpriced?

Maybe by a bit. If it's original condition and hours, I don't think he's too far off. It has been on for a while. If he's been sitting on it, maybe 17,500 would buy it. That would be well bought if it's in good shape.

MX5000 is 2002 to 2008 model year. 4701 is newer. I'm biased toward older stuff, within reason. Fewer pollution control gizmos.

If you're a tall or big guy, the M series might feel more comfortable. I'm neither, but the M is nice and roomy.
