Hi all,
I'll be posting a number of questions on the 2008 L3400HST, but I've decided to try a bunch of separate posts, as I feel sometimes folks tire of reading long posts.
Due to Kubota.com's failure to list all the specs on the older models, I'm forced to bother you all with this. The "Prior Products" section of Kubota's official site is almost useless (IMH0) as it takes a very "Name, Rank and Serial Number) approach, listing only:
"Model # Year Introduced Transmission Type Gross Horsepower
2 or 4 Wheel Drive" as categories.
I have used also used TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors, but that site is rather inconsistent in it's presentation of data, one example being that it will list "wheelbase" for one model, and just completely NOT list "wheelbase" for another, "sister" model. (I have examples I won't bore you with).
I should add that I am concerned about overall length as part of my anticipated use will be inside buildings, using pallet forks, due to my having had back surgery, yet wanting to do small engine repairs and, hopefully, some fabrication work.
So...I'm reluctant to believe TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors listed weight, for the open-station, L3400HST of 2,600lbs., listed here: TractorData.com Kubota L3400 tractor dimensions information, given that the L3400 is both shorter and narrower than the significantly lighter B3030, as I will explain.
Does anyone have positive confirmation that the L3400 really weighs 2,600lbs.? Because I find that surprising, in that both the wheelbase and rear width are (coincidentally, IIRC) 2.3" shorter and narrower than the B3030's dimensions of 65.6" wheelbase (WB) and 57.3" (width) for the B3030 (which ceased production, I believe, in 2011 or 2012). Yet the B3030's weight (with ROPS only) is listed at 1,852 lbs. And while the 1,852lb. figure is also from Tractordata, I do recall that that was in the ballpark for what Kubota.com listed for the B3030's weight, when it was a current model.
Surprisingly, (at least, to me), the L3400's wheelbase, and width, per www.tractordata, by comparison, are allegedly 63.3" (WB) and 51.4" (Width). Source: TractorData.com Kubota L3400 tractor dimensions information. I say "surprisingly" because, although the width and wheelbase are 2.3" smaller on the L3400 than on the B3030's, the weight of the L3400 is allegedly 2,600, some 748 lbs. heavier than the B3030, yet the B3030 is 2.3" longer and 2.3" wider.
Adding to the weirdness, per Tractordata, the overall length of the B3030, with it's 2.3" longer wheelbase (WB) is 99.2", vs. the L3400's WB length of 110.6"
In other words, the tractor that weights 748 more lbs. than the B3030, has a 2.3" shorter wheelbase (WB) and is 2.3" narrower, than the B3030. Yet it is 11.4" longer, overall, in length, despite that 2.3" shorter wheelbase.
And don't get me wrong--I like the additional 748 lbs., for stability. But the 2.3" narrower width can't help stability, and the 11.4" longer overall length will be a detriment inside buildings. I just wanted confirmation that the L3400 really does weight 2,600lbs.
Also, if anyone could explain the "Mission Statement" of this shorter, narrower (much) heavier compact tractor, vs. the B3030, it would be much appreciated.
Further, if any L3400 owners (in the 2008 model "year" range, or thereabouts) could glance at the specs provided in this link TractorData.com Kubota L3400 tractor dimensions information, and confirm (or highlight any factual errors in them) I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks in advance,
My Hoe
