Dave,

Yep, I checked the fluid level, it's full. The only fan I saw under the hood was the one by the air intake and it was working. Is there another fan I can look for under there?

I will continue to monitor the temp of the connectors.....they were so hot that I couldn't keep my fingers on them more than a few seconds.

Thanks for giving me some comparisons,

jrlichina,

I tried various throttle settings from halfway to full - made no difference. When I re-attach the FEL tonight, I'll triple check the coupler attachments as you suggested.

Thanks for helping,

Bob B.,

>Bob B. wrote: Mine does not have the standard valve it has the 4 way. It works on the eight points of the compass. North and south are down and up, east and west are curl and dump, and the intermediate points are combinations with the exception of southwest (lift and curl) which doesn't work effectively because of the load on the hydraulics to fill both cylinders at the same time. My understanding is that the standard valve works the same but the 4 position has an additional position for rapid dump to the extreme east similar to the float function in the north position.

---Thanks, that pretty much goes with what the manual says - I'm anxious to try it.....maybe I was putting some southwest pressure on the down pull and couldn't get enough juice in the lines???? I hope it is that simple!

>Bob B. wrote: It should certainly lift a full bucket, I just moved 9 yards of damp loam today with mine and it would lift a heaping bucket without slowing down. Make sure you use enough throttle. I run about 2/3 for heavy work.

---At least I know what it should be doing, thanks. I'll give it a run for it's money tonight and see what happens.

>Bob B. wrote: Practice! I think I cleared my whole yard of snow (I mean lawn and all!) in the first couple of days I had it. As far as testing with known weight, no. I just tried it. If it lifted it without tipping the tractor it was okay, if not, it was too much!

---Sounds like you had a blast with it! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

---BTW, how do you copy and paste what was said from another post in blue? I highlighted what you wrote and then clicked the blue color but on the edit screen, it wiped out what I had highlighted and just had "blue" ????

Thanks Bob,

Yo Don!!!

I figured you might be checking out my predicament! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Yep, when you get yours, ask them about what I said and let me know what they say about it, if you don't mind.......?? I'd be interested in hearing what they have to say. I'll keep you updated on my "excursions" with this little beauty....

Wish me luck,

Terry,

I'll be sure to watch my throttle....also, thanks for the advice on the turtle, will be sure to do that as well! I'm looking forward to having it work well so I can practice. I've got three more truckloads of clay/gravel to get, so I will hopefully get some practice in.....hard for me to slow down, over-anxious I guess! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I appreciate your taking the time to help,

Hi Mr. Sandyc,

I saw several threads about tachs, wasn't sure if I needed one, but sounds like I maybe could use it (for the same reasons you do - I'm like Mr. Tool Time - more horsepower!) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'll order one.

One question though, the dealer told me to work the heck out of the engine the first 5 or 6 times I use it to "seat the valves properly." Everyone out there concur with this? He said I can't hurt the diesel engine as it is "governed" and won't be affected like a gas engine would. I interpret that to mean that I should run at or near top speed for 10 hours or so on the machine - what do ya'll think??

Much appreciated,

Jrlichina,

>jrlichina wrote: One more thing, make sure your 3-point lift lever is in the neutral position. Sometimes these are out of adjustment so the auto-return doesn't work correctly. If it doesn't, the relief valve will be activated which then causes system pressure loss and excessive heating of the hydraulic fluid.

---Hmmm, I'll definitely have to take a gander at that! Thanks for the heads up! I truly appreciate all the help I can get.....

Obliged,

I've had my BX for about 2 1/2 years now. I've found that my hydraulic connections get quite warm after a lot of heavy use, and find that quite normal. As far as the loader action is concerned, it sounds like you are running at or near idle, and mine acts just as you describe at idle. Rev the engine up to half throttle or so and I think you'll find an amazing transformation in the action. I've lifted about 900 pounds in my FEL, believe it or not!!! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The hydraulic fluid can easily reach temps of 100 degrees over ambient air temperature. The BX does not have a oil cooler, only a fan that blows on the hydrostatic unit so yes those couplers can get hot after hard use on a hot day!

There is a cooling fan that is under the seat or center deck. Look under the center of the tractor (looking rearward) the white plastic Fan is close to the Hydo filter and front PTO shaft. As others have mention there are other things that could effect the FEL power. Just thought this might be a reason why your connectors are so hot.
