Hi,Cowboy..Its seems I am having the same problem on my TS2810F 4wd. I took off the outside hub today and it looks very similar to the pics you posted. I have the same Idea that you have done. I can use the tractor in 2wd until I can find some parts. The gear you show in the housing ,seems to be damaged? My gear and bearing in the outside hub I removed is ok. The inside gear in the housing looks ok also. I can see a shaft coming into the small gear in the housing but thats all I can see. Soooooooooooooooooo...
How did you fix yours to be a 2wd ? tks Again Chuck
Chuck If those 2 gears & the hub bearing seems to be OK on yours what do you think is keeping it locked up ? Is the tractor still in the field , or have you got it back to your shop where you can work on it ? Can you still steer the tractor freely ?
My problem was the missing pieces of the teeth were binding up in the gears . Its hard for me to guess what is causing yours without more info , Pics would help as well since we are talking about 2 different model tractors .
There is a lower & upper spindle bearing & an outer axle bearing that if any one of those bearings is froze up could be causing it to lock up . Or the upper gear & axle gear could have some teeth missing with the pieces causing it to lock up I guess , seems rather unlikely to me though .
As I showed in this thread , I left out the lower spindle gear , the axle gear & the axle itself to make mine just 2 wheel drive . You will need to remove the top steering knuckle , Then the top bearing cap to access the upper gear & bearing , Remove the snap ring & the upper gear & bearing should be able to be pryed out from the top . That should let you see the axle gear as well to decide whats causing it to lock up .
Here are some more pics hopefully this will help . You might be better off removing the tie rod end , Take the bolts out of the end of the axle housing that holds the entire steering knuckle on & removing the whole thing to wear you can work on it more easilly .
But basiclly after you remove the upper snap ring & bearing , you will be able to seperate the lower spindle by tapping between the seal ring & lower spindle leaving the seal on the upper part , being carefull not to damage the seal . The lower part will take some bottom preasure to fit it back into the seal when going back together , I used a floor jack .
Once thats done , turn the lower part upside down , there will be what looks like a rubber coated cap on the bottom . Tap in a small screw driver in 1 spot & try to pry the cap out , its kind of tricky but can be done , try not to damage the cap , you might bend it a bit but it can be straightened back out & resealed for when you go back together with it .
Once thats out Remove the snap ring holding the lower bearing into the knuckle , Slip the whole thing out the bottom that will allow the lower gear to come out the side of the hub area . Leave that out as well as the axle gear & axle & put everything else back together . I,m not real good at explaining things but I hope that helps . any more questions just ask . Best of luck .
