Ethanol blend here is usually 10-15 cents cheaper but the better gas mileage I get with the regular gas more than pays for the higher price.

not wanting to be attacked but I think maybe the ethanol is meant more for saving the amount of crude rather then saving mileage.

Not attacking but, it's not about either. It's all about emissions. It's being used as an oxygenator to replace MTBE.

The gumment subsidized ethanol to the tune of several $ per gallon. You pay taxes so the ethanol producers can make a profit. All of us that work for a living pay extra for it one way of the other. Ken Sweet

The EPA is pushing a 15% blend of Ethanol and the courts just kicked out a lawsuit against going to a 15% blend. The problem is that some/all of the car companies do not allow more than a 10% blend and a 15% blend would invalidate the warranty. Some of the car companies sued but the case was kicked out of court supposedly because the car companies do not have standing. IF a station sells 15%, and one has problems as a result, the individual is shafted.

not wanting to be attacked but I think maybe the ethanol is meant more for saving the amount of crude rather then saving mileage. But has been mentioned with the loss of MPG's there is no savings. It is a Federal program thus it does not have to make a sense, nothing the feds do is efficient or intelligent.

With fracking, horizontal drilling, shale oil and other sources, we have plenty of crude, so no need to continue to use ethanol to save crude. The Green River formation alone can supply US needs for 200 years. Then there's also the Bakken, Three Forks and other fields with abundant supplies. And the ethanol equation never quite penciled out with enough assurance of validity that it makes no sense to continue the ethanol. But politics will rule.

We have two stations in town that sell non-ethanol fuel. One is a BP station that only sells non-ethanol in 89 octane and it is priced the same as the other branded stations. The other station is a non-branded location (but owned by the same BP distributor) and sells non-ethanol in 87, 89, & 91 octanes. The price is always the same as the other non-branded stations and they are never busier than any of the others.

He's just wearing out his truck.... it will die from extra 100 miles per tank fill-up... not from ethanol gas. I think he needs to find a hobby.

My '95 GMC 4X4 has a 350/5.7 engine. In my ignorance (per this thread) I thought this engine replaced the 327.

my truck has 186,000+ mile on ethanol blend gas and is running very well. I have tried 1,000 mile tests using only ethanol free gas. I really can't tell the difference in performance or mileage. I do use ethanol free gas in my lawnmowers, tillers, and saws. I also run every small engine at least every two weeks throughout the year.

Around here there are a number of gas stations that sell ethanol free gas. the price is about 20 cents per gallon more than ethanol blend.

Short of an airport or marina I don't know where I'd go for ethanol - free gas. Blended gas is mandated in enough of our area that distributers carry it almost exclusively.
