Some of the most definitive data ever collected on certain health issues goes back to the Vietnam war...they autopsied tens of thousands of casualties and found that by the time a person is 18-20 years old damage to the heart (heart disease) has already begun...
I feel sorry for parents (and the kids) that eat fried chicken nuggets as a mainstay...

from what my 30 something grand daughter told me not for a very long time.
I remember when an ounce was $20... a nickel bag was 5 and a dime bag was 10. When they doubled we thought it was the end of the world. It's my understanding that what we smoked 45 years ago was like pine needles compared to what they smoke today.
Cancer is tragic, Big Business, and people are the lab rats. They found cures decades ago.

Genetics is a big factor, as is lifestyle, and diet. Fast Food isn't helping.

Just my opinion.
My nephew started school thinking that it would be nice to work on finding a cure for cancer. Somewhere between his Master's and PHD he realized that it will never happen... all that we can do is to catch it early.

I just took a safety class yesterday and the instructor did a segment on Red Bull and other energy drinks. He claims that every time you drink the stuff it damages your heart. He went into a lot more detail, making me glad that I've never tried it.

This is a great article. I hope it can be replicated and proven in more trials.

yup

I haven't tried Red Bull (don't think I'd like it, seems too sweet for me), but I have occasionally (annually ?) enjoyed a MONSTER MOCHA energy drink :), tastes good, delightful, expensive, probably not any better for us though

Moderation is the key.

Ex coworker has to carry a defibrillator with him due to afib. He ended up in the hospital for a week hooked up to heart monitor.

He was working oil field and downing pots and pots of coffee. All that caffeine caused his heart to go wonky.

I don't do more then one drink a day that has caffeine in it. Can't do coffee though. For some reason coffee tanks my blood sugar.

It turns out that centuries of our ancestors using marijuana has created THC receptor's in our body that...shockingly, want THC to bind to regulate body functions. Once of which is how the body grows cancer cells.
Endocannabinoid System isn't around because your ancestors were dopers. Marijuana has a large number of cannabinoids, of which THC is just one and it does bind to cannabinoid receptors as do other cannabinoid in marijuana. Actually pretty interesting system that controls a whole slue of function of the body. I'd be interested to see a study about how THC can effect cancer in the body.

Take a look at your parents and grandparents...you will probably die of something similar to them, independent of environmental factors.

Maternal Grandparents:
Grandmother, stroke died age 69
Grandfather, dimensia/alzheimers died age 69

Paternal Grandparents:
Grandmother, cancer died age 72
Grandfather, cancer died age 89

Mother: dimensia, died 84
Father: Age 92, Still alive & kicking, taking hardly any medications, blood pressure fine, starting to have issues forgetting, pretty spry for his age BUT, might take a nap or three during day.

Lovely choices. I need to go buy a Glock...

I remember all that too (barley).

I don't think I will see the mythical cure for cancer, but, results like this show we are playing around the edges pretty good.

I think we will either end up with a bunch of specialized/individualized treatments that get the bulk of the cancers, or researchers will find a common thread and a single treatment will work for most.

Best,

ed

Don't overlook modern medicine, and/or the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.

I'm 30 years younger than him, and enjoy my naps. I'm fine until I sit down, but once that happens I'm out like a light.

I wonder if any of the common (not really talking about cancer in general) maladies that effect the population could possibly be caused by any of the childhood vaccines most of us had...?...also wonder if (and why) any changes have been made to said vaccines since they were first administered...

just curious...how many boomers (especially older ones) remember hearing their grand parents etc. complain about tinnitus?...I personally don't recall any of them...heard complaints about a lot of ailments but not ringing in the ears...now days ask anyone older than 45 and they are likely to tell you they suffer from tinnitus...just sayin...!
