Where I take the Sport Trac and my company vehicle, they know my name, what I do, and that I have a Kubota with a backhoe. Point is take your vehicle to someone that knows YOU and you will get good service.

For 30.00 or even 40.00 I would not begin to do what the service team does on my vehicle. Same thing goes with the Bota, it goes to where it was sold, and they bill me later.........did not know I had an account there. They just know me.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( </font><font color="blueclass=small">( Vin, lately I've been use a Facom ratcheting strap wrench. Its an unusual design but it seems to work. The downside is the brand is French.

The problem with most oil filter wrenches is that they usually require a lot of room to be effective and don't have a sufficient gripping mechanism to keep them from slipping around the filter. This is a brilliant design. Simply turn the red knob on the end of the handle to tighten the metal strap around the filter; the ratcheting feature lets you work in tight spots. The metal jaws will clamp down on the filter and turn it loose without any slippage. With the handle is about 7" long so it fits into most places.


EDIT : The picture really doesn't show the ratcheting jaws. But the 2 contact points where the handle contacts the filter actually ratchet so you don't have to tighten the strap, turn, loosen, reposition, tighten, turn, etc ... as you might have to do in tight quarters with a regular strap wrench.

Sears Hardware stores sell them online. They are not in the actual stores, it is an "online exclusive." Also online you can look up GRIOT'S GARAGE, they carry them. I think Amazon.Com might have them too.

An alternative nobody has raised - switch to an oil filter with a nut on the end. I know the MobilOne filters are built like this, simply take a socket, or a box wrench, (or even an adjustable cresent wrench) and you're good to go.

No disputing the quality of Mobil 1 filters--but I think their coverage doesn't go real deep, meaning maybe they don't have some of the lesser used numbers /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
