Well if its true that Daimler Chrysler are going to split, i cant see Dodge/Chrysler taking up stronger ties with MB....

Already happened......I think Aug 3 was the date. Chrysler is now mostly owned by Cerberus, a private equity company.

I think the big news here is being able to get an allison tranny with the cummins. The best possible combo IMO.

It's not a Allison, it's a Aisin transmission.

I doubt it,,, I can't remember what the stock newsletter stated, but, something like a ten year renewal contract signed earlier this year,.. I highly doubt Dodge would rid itself of a proven thing,, (Cummins) motors in their product. The Sterling is a rebadged Dodge. I have a new 07, 6.7 one ton myself, Does all I ask of it and more, flawlessly.
Dodge isn't pulling out of the Cummins relationship -- in fact, rumor is that Cummins is developing a much smaller diesel to be used in larger Jeeps, Durango/Dakota, etc.

This is almost what I was talking about in a thread a few months ago...whether or not a pickup made by a BIG truck manufacturer would sell.

Well, Sterling is a definitely big truck manufacturer. But since this is essentially a rebadged Dodge with the same engine, it is not what I was talking about. My speculation was that the first big truck manufacturer to offer a Cat engine in a dually will sell them like hotcakes, at least until the testosterone crowd's demand is satisfied.

My first thought was rebadged Dodge Ram too.

Back in the 1930's and 1940's Mack made a pickup; but I don't think they could make them in quantities to compete with Ford, Dodge and GM. I'd like to have a Mack just for the cool old iron factor.

I've often wondered what a Peterbilt/Kenworth pickup would look like if they actually built one from scratch instead of buying a chassis from whomever and doing some cosmetic tweaks to it like Sterling did with the Dodge.

I also remember back in the 70's or 80's some company was making kit pickups using KW cabs.

Anyway, I will enter to win a Sterling Bullet...what the heck, I may even win. Nuts, I don't have a commercial business to enter to win a bullet. Maybe I can con my brother-in-law into entering one for his small business.

Been sleeping have we? ;) International came out with their new MXT P/U a few months ago. It was originally designed for the military to replace the junk hummers. It was a easy job to make them street legal and sell them on the open market. And the MXT does have a Allison transmission.

Dodge is 80% Cerberus Now, so the relationship with Mercedes is muted.

its a cool truck, wonder where Ford stand in the midst of all this, being as Sterling spun off from Ford?

Remember the IH Scout? It was the Genesis of the SUV....and a good one it was. Never went far though, probably because of IH marketing. Once the testosterone fueled buying wave subsided, IH was incapable of making a Scout that appealed to families and the ladies. I suspect most heavy truck manufacturers would prove similarly handicapped....too insensitive to the remaining 75% of the market.

That's one thing the Big Three is good at. Although we (or is it just 'I') complain about the feminizing of honest trucks and 4x4s, the broad appeal (no pun intended) that Big Three marketing can generate keeps our favorite product lines afloat.

No idea whether the above is actually on topic, but it sounds good.
