( you feel Threatened by them , that your truck won't be the biggest anymore )

Yup, I'm worried sick that Toyota will make a truck like mine. Fourteen thousand pounds as she goes with the capacity for fifty five hundred more before I start considering being overweight for the scales.

Your lauding your preferred brand didn't initiate my pointed remark. Your talking about racing on the highway did.

One of the interesting things about hanging out with and at a dirt track is you notice the winning types aren't the ones usually roaring through the pits. But pit racers do. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hmmm, at least you didn't mention your Toyota or the Titan in the F-150 thread. NOT !! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The New F150

Only 11 posts? Now what was it you said about threat's to one's manhood? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm thinking about buying a full-size truck this spring or summer, so I've read all the F150, Titan & New Toyotas posts at TBN with great interest. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif I also read Motor Trend, Car and Driver, AutoWeek, & Automobile almost religously, as well as Edmunds.com. It's rare that these magazines or websites ever agree on which is the best. I'll make my choice after I've driven them all, compared there performance, comfort, dimensional, safety & reliability specs, as well as their cost of ownership. I really think it is just pure marketing genius that the car companies are able to brainwash people into believing that their products are the best year after year. I own a Ford truck & a Lincoln, so I must be Ford man right? Well, we just bought an Infiniti for my wife, and my last two trucks were a Chevy and a Toyota. If Toyota make diesel electric hybrid truck that beats the rest of the trucks for my needs, I would buy one when I'm ready for another truck.

"P.S. Trust me TresCrows if any one in a 45K, domestic one ton truck is looking at you as you pass in your Toyota it aint' jealousy. "

but what some of you guys don't get is that works in reverse as well. When I see someone in a huge truck with dualies, burning lots of gasoline all by themselves going to the grocery store with those silly "Boy Peeing" decals I am thinking something also--compensation for something might be it. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Ohhhh, 45K, so impressed /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif, whatever, I think you just made the point and I was not even trying to get you too, sorry.

Your analysis of the market is likely wrong /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif and reminds me of what I read in the 70s about how Americans like big V8 cars and would never drive around in tiny little imports--well--they do now. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif While some of us are car/tractor/truck enthusiasts most people are not /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. They will buy on price/features and value. That is why I expect the Toyota & Nissan to etch away at the market and in time dominate it. First will come the 1/2 tons. Further, gasoline prices and Big Brother laws will eliminate 3/4//1 ton trucks for private use so that may be a market that is going awy. The next 10 years are going to be interseting to see what happens both from laws and technology and market forces. What if you had to show yourself as a profit making corporation to own 1 ton trucks or a Farm Tax voucher etc. Big Brother is watching those behemoths get bigger and bigger and bigger. Now, I am not for such laws, I think it should be your choice to ride down the road burning enough fuel to power a fleet of Corollas while on the way to the movie theator--and like I said, when you pass me, it ain't jeaolosy that I have on my mind, more likely I am ducking all the gravel kicked up by huge tires with mud/gravel guards long missing /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif.
Well, the thread is done /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, anyone who was interested in the thread has gotten the message and any additional info is for another time so go ahead and pat yourself on the back /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif. Ten years from now we will see who was right.

Oh, something I read from Ford about the Mustang I think in C&D, they said it has a soild rear axles because most people who buy Mustangs don't know any difference /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif. Well, I do, bad move Ford /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif, for 25,000/35,000 dollars, I expect IRS in a car. The 300 horses sound good too but the Subaru WRX has 300 horse as well and IRS and a 4.6 second zero to sixty. The world has changed, 300 hundred horses barely get's your foot in the door in performace cars. Hopefully the special editions, that I would be interested in, will have the IRS even if I have to pay out the whazzoo to get it or build it myself--what a headache that would be.

I am out of here on this thread but I got another good idea for a thread that will generate controversy. Howabout Rhino vs Line-X /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I saw a tractor with Line-X on the hood and fenders. It was color matched or maybe a stock color. It was not on the bucket, just the fenders, hood, floor etc. I got a buddy who did his whole Jeep top, bottom, inside and out with Line-X. Interesting concept. J

Big trucks have gotten marginally bigger. My '01 Dodge is not bigger by noticeable amount than my '89 Ford was. Both are/were x-can longbed 4x4's. The cab might be a tiny bit bit longer, but not by much. The new trucks get better mileage too, albeit marginally. More people are buying them, but they are not getting bigger by leaps and bounds.

They are lacking in two spots; manueverability and fuel mileage. As in my earlier post, I do not understand why these new from the ground up engines do have have major improvements in mileage. I use the capability of my truck, unlike a lot of folks. For all these big trucks, I wish they could add four wheel steering to all. It is a joke that Chevy came out with it for a shortbed but not long bed or dually crewcab.

I would like to see a Rhino vs Line-x. I wopuld like to do my truck. Don't know which would be best, or if they are pretty even.

I do not think Titan and the New Toyota will have the effect the other Japanese cars had in the 70's. Overall quality has improved, and as the fullsize truck market is soooo competitive, it "drives" them to push the quality. Getting a truck now is not like getting a truck or car in the 70's, it just aint. I understand your idea and point, but the impact just is not there like it was 30 years ago.

I mention the 45K price because it's absurd to think that a guy who goes out an buys one of these top of the line domestic trucks you describe is concerned with your Toyota.

What it is and I have noticed it and therefore my digs is that guys in domestic pu trucks just go nuts if my Toyota is ahead of them just like you guys do.

Your sound a little paranoid. Why do you think anyone would even notice you on the highway? I merely pointed out that if they REALLY ARE giving you the "once over" it's likely something other than jealousy. Perhaps its your vehicles appearance, your appearance or maybe your driving.

but what some of you guys don't get is that works in reverse as well. When I see someone in a huge truck with dualies, burning lots of gasoline

Gasoline, surely you jest?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You still don't get it, you really think guys in domestic trucks are upset because your Toyota is in front of them. In reality they don't probably know you're alive much less care about what truck you're drive or your track position. TresCrows, the universe isn't revolving around you and your Toyota. Most of us don't get all 'bent up" over who or what has passed us. Did you ever see the movie Goodfellas, are there helicopters following you as well?

Your analysis of the market is likely wrong and reminds me of what I read in the 70s about how Americans like big V8 cars and would never drive around in tiny little imports--well--they do now

Then why have the Japanese NOT made great inroads into this market while they have made inroads into all the other areas of the car market?? My contention is that this is a UNIQUE niche and that the Japanese are likely to continue having trouble with it. As far as driving tiny imports...maybe THEY, do I don't. I am still drivIng American V-8s, own 3, have never owned anything else and hope probaly never will.

You mentioning a potential Japanese diesel :This diesel will not be meant to compete with the likes of Cummings/Tritons "

Wow it won't compete with the Cummins or the TRITON diesel??? Huh?

Well, the thread is done , anyone who was interested in the thread has gotten the message and any additional info is for another time so go ahead and pat yourself on the back . Ten years from now we will see who was right.

The Japanese have been making "big" pick ups (their words) for years now. Those trucks aint' doing any work around me, don't think an extra liter under the hood and stretching the body another foot is going to be a miracle cure..

Well at last we agree....this thread is done. Your thread was thick with attitude, glad to return the favor.

Further, gasoline prices and Big Brother laws will eliminate 3/4//1 ton trucks for private use so that may be a market that is going awy.

The big three diesel trucks have virtually eliminated emissions in their trucks. They already meet standards for the 2010 guidelines. As far as mileage and economy goes the imports have nothing here. They get as poor or poorer mileage than a 3/4 or 1 ton does already. Even the compact pickups are dang poor on mileage. My dually 1 ton 4wd crewcab gets better mileage than any toyota or nissan 1/2 ton. I wish they would come out with some vehicles that get great mileage and would up the anty with regard to performance, mileage, etc. like they did with cars. But as of yet they are just playing a pretty poor game of catch up in my opinion.

According to this news story Toyota has passed Ford to become the No. 2 world wide auto maker. I don't know how long the story will be there, so the link may only be good temporarily.

Surely you don't believe that? You say this yet in your first thread you say that after Toyota introduces their 2006 Tundra then they will come out with a 3/4 and 1 ton. Is this your speculation or did you read this? Next question, if Toyota is going to build a 3/4 and 1T, is the market really going away? Who has done more market analysis, TresCrows or Toyota?

History of Toyota Fullsize Trucks

1. Toyota T100 with V6. Toyota called it fullsize, they really did. Not even close, maybe a Dodge Dakota competitor.

2. Toyota Tundra with V8. A little better, but you still aren't quite full size are you?

3. What is next? Come on Toyota you can do it.
