NEW 2038R

Cool! :drink: Yeah, I don't understand why a lot of people get the smaller deck, unless you need the clearance. The 72 is way easier to mow around obstacles.

I got the small deck because Vermont isn't flat...:)

great idea, the 72 is a scalper if you are going over undulating ground - I have some sloped drainage areas and I am having to relearn how to mow those with my 72 vs 62, you wouldn't think it makes that much difference but my issue is the size difference in my 2210 and 2038R and the deck is causing scalping out at the edges when the deck digs in, I am trying to find a happy medium between running the rollers out on the edge of the deck vs them being so far down it binds up the tractor when it tries to roll over the uneven ground.

There doesn't seem to be as much float to the deck as the 2210 deck had - I also get uncomfortable noises coming from the deck drive when going over uneven ground more so than I did with my smaller deck. I hear things grinding or rubbing under the tractor. So again trying to learn the happy medium between the deck being suspended from the tractor and letting it run on the deck rollers.

Which brings me to the question, what is the proper way to run your deck, letting it run on the rollers all the time like a zero turn or finish mower OR leave is suspended from the tractor w/out the rollers touching? I have heard both so what do you all do on your units?

My manual says the "rollers should have 3/8 inch gap between rollers and the ground per the height selected" and I spray the axles with Fluid Film because i bet those rollers are costly!!!

Your 2210 was a suspended deck, meaning the tractor carried it and the wheels were for scalp protection.

Does your 2038 have a height adjusting knob like the 2210? If so, it is also a suspended deck.

update on the scalping, I lowered the scalp rollers and am now running the deck higher off the ground at 5 instead of 4 it has helped but I still hate the sound when going over uneven ground that something is obviously binding/grinding - both my 2210 and this one do it, my ford didn't so not sure what the differences are in their under carriage system.

I am loving the ride of it, my 2210 was brutal and hurt both my wife and I's backs. This 2038R is much smoother.

I finally got my 3 point drawbar anti rotating device fabricated, I got my electric seeded bracket modified as well as my 15 gallon boom sprayer adapted to 3 point so now I am ready for fall battle LOL.

The 12 volt receptacle is handy for those two items since they are powered by 12volts. I did fertilize the yard last week and it was uneventful so that worked good, ready to spray some spurge and fall growth items so will try out the boom sprayer.

Broke through into the double digits on the hour meter last week but not sure I will break through the 25 hour mark for my first oil change before winter and the wood hauling!!!!

Thanks for the update!!

Only unusual noise my 2210 makes is in a full lock right turn and the left front tire slightly elevated. The left front tire "ticks" on the latch handle of the front deck bracket. Took me a couple years to solve that mystery noise. :)

Suspension seat solved the ride problem.

ahhh gotcha on the seat - that would probably have done it on our 2210 - as for the noise I am sure something under there is rubbing - im thinking maybe if I go out in the dark I might be able to see sparks LOL - mine is going straight if I go over something that is not level and my scalp rollers hit and press up on the deck no matter which side gets raised up it makes the noises, same for my 2210 - but so glad its gone it was a sore spot for us.........in more ways than one, I hope your 2210 is better than ours, I know many have had great luck with them but ours was plagued with things that kept going wrong - I got it used and I just think it was overused for its intent and cause a lot of the issues.

Isn't that odd. My 2210 is very dependable. So much so that I whined this Summer when I had to replace the battery..... :)

yes I have heard many great things about the 2210 - I will say it was a great starter in the winter even below 20degrees - I didn't like the lift apparatus for the deck/3 point arms - cant used independently - it ws always in the wrong spot - mechanism not sturdy enough, bent linkage - had hydraulic problems, drive shaft, pressure control valve, 3 power steering valves, wife and daughter were afraid to drive it due to all the malfunctions - deck lift arm weld broke - the design for repairs is for anything past the engine - have to remove so much to get to anything.

So yes issues for me and ours, like I said in fairness to the tractor I think it was overused before I got it - I think that contribute to the issues we had. I bought it at 780 hours and sold it at 920 owned it 2.5 yrs. The engine was my favorite part of it.
