Thanks for the input, btw, I have yet to begin to figure out the potential of this little bear.

What's someone else's favorite attachment?

Randy,

I have a 4300 with a 430 loader and a few other attachments. I probably use the loader the most.

I decided last fall that I wanted a second tractor so that I wouldn't spend so much time changing attachments. I went on the hunt of a tractor that had a three point hitch and would be somewhat reliable. Didn't have to be perfect - just servicable.

After shopping for a number of weeks, I ended buying a 45 year old John Deere 3010 with a 48 loader from the local Deere dealer - 4 miles from my farm. I thought that I didn't really need another loader, but the price was right and a 48 loader is in demand and could be sold for more than half of what I paid for the tractor and loader.

I use one of the loaders at least once a week. The 48 loader is not for sale - the functionality that it adds can only be replaced by a strong back. Until I stumble upon the fountain of youth, me and the loaders are going to be the best of friends.

Make a list of all the things that need to happen on your place. Sort the list in the order of priority. I suspect that the folks on this board will be able to offer solutions to most of the problems that you face. Some will involve the purchase of an attachment and some will simply be common sense solutions to problems that many of us have dealt with.

My Rotomec 54" tiller. Makes quick work of turning the garden over in spring and fall, saving my back as well as saving time versus using my 5 HP front-tine tiller.

For snow, you will love the front blade, but agree with the post above, the tiller is awesome on this unit and I use a LandPride RTA1050, 50" and I can turn the ground into beautiful power.

I dont have too much of a rocky soil... mine is heavy clay and even a 9 inch gets stuck .You quickly develop the skill of taking small bites

Hey all,
I just bought an '03 2210. 180 hrs, 54" front blade and 62C MMM. $6300 seemed like a deal to me. But what do I really need to go with it?

I have 20 acres on the side of a mountain in VA, i.e. hilly and wooded, with a half mile gravel road to maintain. I mow about 1.5 acres, flat and hills. I want to move material around so I want a FEL. Probably a box scraper for the road?

So I have a lot of questions I guess. I had planned on buying one with a FEL and a scraper and a bush hog, but now I have this.

So, what FEL is better? How's visibility with the permanent mount one? Do I stay with Deere attachments? If not, what do you like? Oh, it also has turf tires and I don't think that will do in the hilly woods. Can I do chains or do I change tires?

Thanks for any input. This is my first Deere and I'm tickled Green! :D

Randy

Go with the 200cx IF you get a FEL... The quicktach feature will be worth the few bucks more. My 54" box blade has served more uses than I initially thought it would. Very handy and it'll work wonderful maintaining your drive. Don't go over 54" for your 2210 IMO.... 48"-54" is a good fit. I would also recomend getting the i-Match 3 pt quick attach... not that expensive and makes life MUCH better working with the 3 pt. Lastly... I had a 49" bucket on my 2210 and would say to go with the 53". A little more capacity (handier for the bulky stuff-mulch, snow and the light stuff)... and of course just be careful when filling it. Enjoy your 2210!

FEL first, no doubt, but a tiller is definitely on my list of neccessities. I only do a kitchen garden really, but it's growing to about half an acre when I get the tiller.

I have had my 2210 for over 2 years and I couldn't image the machine without my loader. I can't comment on the 200x, but my 210 is perfect for what I need. I can get it off in less than a minute (we had races this summer, I killed my neighbor the KUBOTA guy), but it usually is on because it usually is in use. I have hauled over 40 yards of rock with it for my rock wall, built my entire looped driveway with it. Done all my landscaping with it. Leveled somewhere around 100 yards of dirt. Moved trees, dug out rocks, trenched, graded, and plowed a million tons of snow (notice I'm from northern ontario).

As far as your tires go it depends on your hillyness. I have turf on mine and wouldn't want anything else. I would find it hard to believe that anyone has abused their machine as much as I have mine, and I've done it all with turf tires. I would like some chains for winter, but all of my stuff at work (my wheel loaders etc) would benifit from chains in the winter, Industrial or Ag won't be whole lot better on ice. I've never gotten mine stuck yet, and I've pulled close to 15 cords of wood out of my bush for firewood without any problems.

I have an 82" finishing mower on mine (rear discharge, 3 point mount) and I can mow my whole lawn so fast I can't believe it. If you live in an area where your grass grows thicker than mine I would recommend staying with the one you have.

I don't have a box scraper, but I have used them lots and lovethem to pieces. It's on my list of "things I have to have"

Good info. I guess I'll just have to give these turf tires a chance. Surely if you can get by with them I should be fine here with our measly 2-3' of snow per year. Thanks

May need some skid plates if going off trails to protect cooling fan. See other thread posted by jdpfeffer about his 2210.
