JD 2305
Hi -

First - great community here. Lots of info - I've been lurking for about a month or so.

I've been shopping the sub-cut market for a bit, it came down to a bx-2230 or a jd 2210 or 2305. After driving both for just a bit (no real "work" with either) to get a feel for them I'm really leaning towards the JD.

Local dealer's first shot at a new 2305 with 200cx loader, 62c MMM, ballast box and setup for all came in at $14,400 for all plus tax. Local dealer does not have any 2210's new or used at this time and has none in the pipeline.

Non-local dealer has a used 2003 model 2210 with ~170 hours on it with a 210 loader and 62c MMM for $10,500. This one is still under warranty for a few months and was used by the local chuch for mowing. Was completely serviced by this JD dealer and was traded in on their 2 year cycle for a new 2305 with the same equipment. Looks new, not scratched up. FEL looks like it was barely used. This was their first price on this as well, but seems fairly priced (IMO).

I've driven the 2305 but not the 2210 so obviously I'd have to make the short trip and do so.

Question is, go with the 2305 with the newer design, new engine and warranty or pocket the $4k plus tax and get a really nice 2 year old machine with ~170 hours on it?

I would guess I'd put ~75-100 hours on it the first year and then ~35-50 years 2 and beyond.

Also - I'd really like to be able to run a 3 point chipper on either unit that I buy. Would the Jinma 6" chipper that is reviewed here work on these tractors or is it too much for this size tractor? I'm not logging a forest, just cleaning up an existing brush pile and any future brush piles. The price on the Jinma has my interest.

Your thoughts? What am I overlooking?

Scott

The price for the 2305 seems a little high. I paid $13250 for that setup without the ballast box. That being said, I'm very unhappy with my dealer and would be willing to pay a little extra for a good experience. Unfortunately you don't always know until it's too late.
When I was shopping I couldn't find any used 2210's. I was also looking at a new BX2230 and used BX23. I also wanted a backhoe so I was going to add that to a John Deere or a BX2230. Of course the BX23 already has a hoe. What I found was that the used tractors were priced to close to the new ones. I had cash to buy, but I thought I would take advantage of the "free" money incentives from the factories and buy new.
I think you may find a better price on a 2305 but if the 2210 is equipped just the way you want it and you don't need to finance I would probably buy that one.

I recommend not dealing with J.D. equipment. I know they're in Michigan and Ohio. I don't think they have a store in your area.

cast and blast,

All machines are formitable performers in this class. To me, it all comes down to ergonomics and dealer. The BX has a more difficult to use Cat-0 arms/Cat-1 pin 3PH, but it does offer a factory BH. Whichever way, those factors may be important. Happy hunting! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

ok rvtech, i bit, is jd equipment the one's that have adds in the michigan- ohio auto rv? if it is then after looking at their adds, i can almost imagine the kind of experiance that you had. the dealership that i'm thinking of is one of those high pressure wheeler dealer types. kind of like the one's that advertize quads, bikes, snowmobiles etc. as being the lowest prices anywhere until you get ready to sign on the dotted line, and see all the hidden costs that the adds didn't mention (unless you can read all the fine print at the bottom). but anyhow share your experiance with us so that we won't be given the same treatment. thanks..........lar

Tough call... as with everything it all comes down to personal preference. For me... I chose to buy a used 2004 2210 this fall. Mine had a little over 200 hours, 210 FEL & 62" deck. I paid their asking price of $10,000 + $500 sales tax (their price was firm). I thought it was a decent deal. For the $3-$4,000 under new I thought it was well worth buying used over new. HOWEVER, with a tractor I can completely understand someone buying new. No matter what you're told, you're not going to know how hard it's been used. That's a nice advantage you have with the used model you're considering in that it still has a little warranty. So, I certainly would give the used one a serious look before going new.

Good luck with your decision & keep us posted on your decision... regardless, the 2210 is a phenominal machine.

You may want to consider also that there are always things that come up with new models. I recall a thread on the attachment points on the 200cx loader breaking. JD appears to have increased the amount of castings to reduce some costs. I have a 2004 2210. I have pushed it pretty hard the past year and the only problem has been a leaking cylinder on the loader which was fully covered under warranty. Either way I don't think you will be dissapointed, the 2210 is a great little machine. Any input from people who may have had both or have a 2305?

I didn't see any ads posted in a trader magazine. I saw a used tractor on Ebay and emailed to ask a question about it. I then stopped at their store and got a price on a new 2305. I then checked 3 other dealers none of which would come within $1000 of J.D.'s price. I purchased from them, have had a number of phone calls not returned concerning backhoe brackets that I still don't have. I also had a problem with the radiator and the service department took care of that to my satisfaction. I have been back for a few parts without a problem. I do have a problem with Arin (my salesman) Read my post in the other John Deere section. Apparently I'm not the only one to have a problem with him. I feel the dealer should step up and do something to resolve my problem. I've made it clear that Arin is not helping.

cast and blast,

Since the machine is still under warranty, you could ask the church to split an extended warranty (this would need to be purchased through the dealership, a strong inspection) with each of you paying ~$500 each. The warranty would then give you an additional year on major components, so you are now only out 11K and would save 3.5K. Just a thought.

Good points - thanks for the reply. Have you had good luck with your '04?

I guess people are always drawn to "new" - the 2305 looks nicer than the 2210 (IMO) but then you're also dealing with the first year of a new model so who knows what issues will be found. As far as performance goes I think they are about a push, at least for how I'll use them.

All things being equal, I guess I'd rather let someone else take the initial depreciation hit, they seem to depreciate at a much slower rate after the first year or two.

Have you had good luck with your '04?

rvtech -

I agree on the price from the dealer - I have not yet reached out to other dealers in the area to get competitive pricing. when I was in I made it clear that my preference was to buy local if possible.

I've read your other thread on your backhoe bracket issues - I'm sorry to hear about that. I'm sure it very frustrating and is putting a grey cloud over the whole buying experience. Good Luck!
