John Deere 2305
I have been visiting this site and MyTractorForum since December of 2008 when I realized the used 2002 John Deere X585 with Curtis Cab, 47 snow blower, and 62" deck that I purchased for maintaining our new home that we were in the process of building was not going to be able handle all of the additional task that I had envisioned when I bought it in the spring:rolleyes:. Through reading past posts I quickly decided the 2305 was the way to go for me. I was able to sell the X585, without the deck and this deck works with my new 2305. I am attaching pictures of the Machine I am replacing and some picture of me tilling the garden and of my wife and daughter on the machine in our driveway.

Looks like you got a nice tractor there. Enjoy!

Sure looks like you have a nice set up there. Keep us posted on how the 2305 compares to the x585 for mowing. Let us know if the deck is easier to get on, and off, and how manuverable it seems to be in comparison. Curious minds need to know these things. :D

Nice upgrade!! Looks like you didn't waste any time putting it to work. What size tiller did you go with?

Next year he'll be looking for that "next size up" tractor to move up too!! Just go ahead and get you a 30+hp JD 4x4 with FEL and be done with it!! LOL.

Have fun! Good thing you got R4 tires, Turf tires and mud/dirt/hill dont mix.
Can you or have you put a cab on it for winter?

ChuckinNH,

Thanks. It seems like the 62" deck is easier to install on the 2305 than it was on the X585. In my experience, the deck had to be lined up just right to roll under the X585 and you have more forgiveness with my new ride. The X585 I only had for about 8 or 9 months, and it was originally bought for just snow blowing and didn't have a deck. When I bought it from the dealer, I purchased a brand new deck to complete the package and I ended up selling the unit, minus the deck, to someone in MN who just wanted it for commercial snow blowing. Thus, I had a brand new deck, but no tractor to put it on. Fortunately, it worked out ok, because the machine that fit my needs was compatible with this deck. Mowing is comparable between the machines. Similar turning radius and quality of cut.

Slatecreek,

Thanks, I ended up getting a 50" Mashio Tiller and it works great.

Kebo,

I wish I could afford the 2320 or 2520, but I wasn't able to reuse the deck with the 2320 and after I sat down and thought about it and compared the pros and cons of the different sizes, once all the landscaping is completed on our 2.5 acre lot, the majority of my time is going to be spent with mowing, flower bed maintenance, garden tilling, and snow removal. The 2305 just made the most sense for the property we have and the majority of the use for the machine.

Johndeere3720,

I am definitely smiling every time I climb on the seat. Have not had any traction issues with the R4s. Even though the turfs on the X585 were fine for cleaning the driveway w/o chains I wanted the extra traction for the dirt work to give you a little security in the mud and dirt. Right now I have no plans for putting on a cab. Majority of the tractor seat time will be during the warmer months and I didn't like the lack of airflow with just taking the doors off on the X585 during the green & mud season. But, I know I will miss it this winter, but that is what they make carharts for. If the cab didn't take so long and wasn't so difficult to remove, and not to mention how much room it would take up once it was removed, I would probably consider it later on.

Thanks for the input. I got that impression looking at both of them, but confirmation from someone that has used both is good........ thanks!

Congratulations on your new tractor, thanks for posting. I bought mine in 2006, and have no regrets. I do think I need to add a cab, though. After three winters of snowthrowing, I'm thinking of upgrading from the Carhart!

Dale,

If you operate the tractor around obstructions, consider moving the rear lights inboard on the ROPS. It's an easy fix. They are vulnerable as originally fitted. I always have to learn the hard way: broke one of mine by smacking it upside a satellite dish as I was mowing.

Cheers,
Mark
