Hello all,
I've been monitoring this site for awhile and now can finally post.

I'm waiting for my 2320 (R4 tires) to come. Ordered on the 16th.

Here are my attachments:
FEL (200CX)
BH (13” shovel)
Snow blower (two stage)
62D mower deck
'I' match
rear light

I'll be using it on my 16 acres to manage my fields, a pond and for doing light excavating. I've been struggling along with old garden tractors and have always wanted a John Deere. The compacts really caught my eye. I like the size. I was initially thinking about the 2305 but wanted a small BH option, also the 2320, as most of you probably know, has a full Cat 1 hitch.

I plan on making some attachments (I have a small machine shop and good MIG equipment.)

I’m a retired EE. I built my house about 12 years ago and just finished building a large garage.

Rob

Congrats! What delivery date did they give you? The wait --- even days --- will be miserable.

He just said about "two weeks". This is torture, he might as well have said, "Hey, come on over here and I'll pound toothpicks under your finger nails."

Geeze, don't these guys know you're constipated for a couple of weeks waiting for this thing to come!

Anyway I was wondering about fuel. I spoke to one of the long time farmers around here (upstate NY) and he said you can get away with number two heating oil once and awhile but if you use it on a regular basis you'll clog your jets.

I'm thinking what if I run it through a 25A filter like I do for my boiler. That's a pretty small jet and it runs a couple of years before I have to take out my nozzle and clean it. Maybe I could run fuel oil and just run a cleaner once and awhile.

Rob buddy - welcome to the forum and nice tractor choice. Now straighten up and just run the regular road grade diesel and be done with it. You don't spend big $$$ on a tractor and cheap out on the fuel. Too much fun on it to mess around with. Especially not while the warranty is in effect.

Good point. Penny wise and dollar foolish as the adage goes.

How do you plan on using for you're pond? I've been thinking about a small winch and a drag line to clear lotus after they bloom. (My pond is 1/2 acre).

Hi,

My pond is about 1/3 to 1/2 too. I'm lucky when I sited my house there was a spot on my land that was always wet and had several springs running into it. I had it excavated out to about twelve feet deep because I wanted to stock it with trout and they need deep water in the summer to stay cool. I put some big rocks at the bottom and some gravel in the hope that the trout would spawn there being that it had so many springs in it. Very hard to get trout to spawn even with lots of running water and the pond constantly being refreshed. Well it never happened. This year I introduced brookies, maybe they'll reproduce but I doubt it.
Anyway I'm going to bring in gravel and see if I can run a shallow channel where the external spring feeds the pond to see if that works. Trout need a place to lay their eggs. This could be the problem.

Rainbows only live about 5 years, lakers can go up to 25. Between the Great Blue heron and the martin the next year they almost cleaned me out of rainbows. I saw the heron trying to fly off with a 10 or 12 inch rainbow as I ran across the back side of the pond shouting my protests. Bet he won't try that nonsense with a new JD parked on the back side of the pond!

Herons and a King fisher stop at my pond on a daily basis. It was stocked with trout and bass when I bought the place and I still pull out large dead fish from winter kill. Though I don't see them in there too often. I started using a compressor driven aerator this spring and I'm thinking this should stop the winter kill. The lotus took off like mad however. They get to be 6' high over the water and 3' wide, currently covering half the surface. My pond is 12' deep and spring fed as well.

Rob, congrats. I just want to add my 2 cents. If you plan to use the backhoe, don't get the MMM. Get a RFM. The MMM is a PITA to remove and you won't want to take it off every time you use your BH. I just traded my 62D and ind lift in for a RFM for that reason...Jon

Thanks Jon,
I thought one of the attractive points about the drive over mower was it's quick to hook up.

How long does it take to get the BH on?

A Lind,
There's a pond down the road with your same problem. So over grown now you can almost walk on it.
