Last week I traded my 4100 in on a new 2520(needed more power for Aera-vating). The 2520 came with R3's, 62D MMM, 200cx Loader and an I-match. My problem is with tire clearance's. 1. I noticed the lower 3pt hitch bars were dragging on the tires with the I-match installed. 2. The rear pins for the draft bars are also dragging on the tires along with the draft bars. 3. A few loose bolts someone(dealer & factory) missed which I remedied.
Brought the tractor home Tuesday evening and removed the loader first. Set mower height and made a few passes on the lawn before removing the deck. I also removed the I-match since it is incompatible with my Aera-vator. Hooked up Aera-vator and made a few passes in the back yard adjusting the 3pt hitch bars to stay off the wheel. Go to back up to the concrete slab at my shop and bang! Tractor comes to a dead stop! Left side draft bar was dragging on the ground and stopped reverse motion upon contacting the edge of the slab. Somehow I didn't bend it this time. Went out and found the missing pin, washer, and spring clip on the lawn. I remove the draft bars & linkage completely so I could finish setting up Aera-vator's wiring for the seed box controls. Both draft bars are black from dragging on the turf tires (not a good sign of things to come and I didn't even have .5 hours on my new deere).
I used the 2520 with the Aera-vator for the next few days for work and I am pleased with the extra hp over the 4100. Still getting use to the change of two control positions. The first is the PTO switch is now on my left (4100 on right) and keep raising my right foot to set the parking brake and it is not there. The turf tires are not rutting up lawn as much as the r4's did on the 4100. All's great until I decide to mow the lawn at my house on Saturday afternoon. Mounting the 62D is a pain! The front linkage that locks up under the hood guard needed persuasion with a hammer just to fit in the hooks. I also had to take the time to put the draft bar back on first. I mount the mower finally and set off mowing. Within an hour I have mowed everything and go back to the shop to cleanup! To my amazement the other side draft bar linkage came off at the middle(just behind the deck). This time I bent it up and it was holding the 3pt hitch all the way up. Judging by the marks in my back yard it just fell off on the last few passes. I fuss with the deck to release it off the tractor and removed the draft bars again. I park the tractor and myself to cool off a bit. [[Do the engineers at JD really use their products]]. My dilema is now what to do. I will call the dealer on Monday and I may try to contact an area JD rep who lives in the area. I like the tractor for the main purpose I have it for (WORK) but for mowing it's looks grim. I probably would not have ordered a 62D if any dealer had one to see or demo. My experience with commercial mowing equipment over the last two decades is that a tunnel deck (ie. 4100, 455) offers a superior manicure cut compared to other designs. I can't be the first 2520 with R3's to have tire clearance issues.
