It's a done deal, I take delivery this Saturday of my new 2816. Thanks for everyone who posts in this forum, it really helped with my decision.

I have a question now that I've picked a model...being this is the first time I've purchased a tractor or dealt with a tractor dealership...is there anything I should nibble for before signing the dotted line? A 200 hour service? or should that come with the deal anyway? Will I need to extend the drawbar to pull my 5x10 trailer? I'm not going to expand my toolset until I figure out what I need most (it's new, hope that day doesn't come too soon) but maybe there's something I haven't thought of... a fishing rod holder? lol

...and are there any accessories that most jobs need but people tend to pickup at the dealer? I'm buying the package that includes the FEL, cutter and box blade, I can't really afford a canopy just yet.

any other advice for a new 2816 owner will be appreciated...I'm looking forward to spending work time on the tractor and leisure time catching up here on the forums. Here's my little slice of Texas I'll be working.

If you cannot weld have the dealer add hooks and reinforcement to the bucket. You have selected an excellent machine, enjoy.

Thanks Buck12, that's exactly the kind of tip I was looking for, I don't own any welding gear so I can see how those hooks would come in handy. When you refer to reinforcement, what does that usually entail?

I have found that a 2x2 angle 3/8" thick works very well to have across the top lip of the bucket before welding on said hooks. I also put 3/8" plate on the front sides of my 3215 bucket to help protect from bending. Here's a few pics. ;)

Awesome pics MVR, thanks for that, I hadn't seen this post when they asked me where to weld the hooks, looks like I'll end up with just 2 directly in front of the boom assembly arms where the bucket pivots.

Papers signed, done deal, may have to visit my welding neighbor to add more reinforcement at this point. They wanted around $400 at the dealer for bolt on edge.

Great looking shop btw!

I hope that they put some sort of additional support under the hooks. These smaller buckets are really only built to move loose material and are not all that strong in the std configuration. :(

Best of luck with your new ride, be sure to post pictures when you get it, we all like pics here at TBN.

Like mtnviewranch said reinforce the top of the bucket before adding hooks. I bought my 2615 with 220 hours and the top of the bucket (same bucket as the 2816) was bent. I had the bucket straightened, reinforcement added, and added three hooks - one in line with each arm and one in the center. A buddy bought a 2816 with 77 hours and the top of the bucket was bent.

Yes, if try to use your loader bucket for any unintended use, the risk of bending is to be expected. If I toss a 12" boulder into a 10" bucket, guess what happens? :)

I was not implying that there is anything wrong with the buckets only that a little reinforcement can save grief if the OP uses his FEL like many others seem to.

I didn't think you were implying anything. I know for a fact the bucket is made to load soil, manure, bark dust, etc..

Before I added reinforcement to my top edge, I put a little bow in it. Now, with a 1/4" thick piece of angle iron welded across the entire length, and a Markham Welding tooth bar, I can get away with using my bucket for about anything coming to mind.
