Congratulations! I think I know how you feel, as I just got a new 3520 about 3 weeks ago. I've been playing in the mud with loaded R1s and they would certainly make a mess of a lawn - I see why you got R3s.

Have fun (I mean, ahem, work hard)!

Hey Rockgod,

When I was purchasing my machine, the dealer told me that he had sold a few machines last year with the turf tires on them. One of the landscape contractors he deals with swears by those turf tires. Apparently he runs them year round. The contractor runs a snow removal buisness in the Winter and he says that he gets excellent traction and doesn't even need to use tire chains.

Just about everyone I've seen here on TBN seems to be happy with their R3s in the snow. It's mostly R4s with chains you see. Looking forward to using these tires in both winter/summer.

Congrats on the new tractor. I have had the turf tires on my old 4200 since i bought it new and they do work good moving snow but they can be alittle rough on the grass when I make sharp turns. I have a lot of trees in the yard to deal with. These tires also do pretty good when I pull My 5 ft disk for my food plots and with my loader. My 4200 is alot smaller but that cab sure would be nice in the winter. :)

Rockgod,

I have been checking out a JD 72" root grapple. I need to get one and I like that grapple, but I have a 300cx loader and I am not sure that the loader will handle that root grapple. I looked at the 48" one but it seems like it would be a little too small. Any ideas/suggestions?

First reaction would be the lighter 48" if it's going to be attached to a 300cx. Not saying the 72" wouldn't work (probably wood), it just might not be optimal. This 500 lb. 66" grapple I have now worked great with the 400x but that loader has about 500lb more lift cap. than the 300cx. I hope by just taking smaller bites out of brush piles/logs I'll be able to keep the grapple, if not it'll go up for sale in the spring. We'll see...

What's the main use on your new grapple?

I will be primarily picking up piles of Black Spruce branches, hauling them over to the chipper and moving logs with it.

I will also be moving alot of stumps with it. I trying to make yard look more like a yard and clean up some of the beetle kill.

Save some weight/money and go with the 48"
