Hi Goodguy
Your procedure for removing is what I ended up doing through trial and error. The problem I had was the rockshafts wouldn't raise at all, even with the hose hooked up. It finally did but I think it was stuck because it had not been exercised. I really don't know but cleaned the rockshaft filter and everything works fine now.
The lights are a great idea because I do occasionally move snow in the dark.
I appreciate the info on the manuals.
Thanks, Tom

The 4310 looks great! That's a real nice setup. Doesn't look like it was ever used. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Hi JayC

Only had 24 hours on it when I picked it up. Had to buy a new battery for it (discharged and frozen solid) and drove it home. About froze to death because I was 15 miles from home and it was 15 degrees out. Was worth it though...

Hate to drone on but anybody know about "break-in oil". Before I bought it, this tractor sat for over a year in an outside covered shed. One of the first things I did was dump the oil and change the filter. It had 25-28 hours on it when I changed the oil because I just felt uncomfortable leaving the original oil in there. A friend said there was probably break-in oil in there and I should have left it until it hit 50 hours.

The manual indicates an oil change at 50 hours. Is 25 hours sufficient to break in the rings etc or should I put new break-in oil in it and run it for another 25 hours or so? I thought break-in oils were old school stuff but I don't know much about diesel engines. Does anybody know if JD puts break-in oil or regular oil in the engine. Is this a problem or am I just an over-protected JD owner? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

While a specific break in oil might be good, I would have changed that oil, too. And a good oil should be fine...
