New 4410 A Huge Disappointment

Dave, I do not think the 30 day return policy applies to that tractor. John Deere is very good about fixing things, you will find this out. Hit them up for a extended warrenty at no cost to you, for your troubles. If you have signed the papers you have bought the tractor, unless the dealer can do otherwise on his own.

Hope it all works out to your favor, I had a problem with mine at 2 hrs and they made it right. That made me very happy that I bought Green. They stand behind thier product.

( The dealer tells me he'll strip parts from another new 4410 on his lot to get mine going if he doesn't have what he needs in inventory. I told him to take this one back and let me know if he thinks I would better off with another one. Were it not for my threatening to use the 30 day return policy I don't think my dealer would be as willing to deal with me. )

Funny, but at least in Indiana, I was told that stripping parts from a new car to fix a sold car is not legal. A dealer told me that. I would repeat that YOU NEED TO FIND A DIFFERENT DEALER to deal with!

Regarding the return policy, I don't know how that applies, but with many major purchases there is a 3 day policy that the government steps in on. I believe it applies to cars. Don't have a clue about tractors. Might just be some state's laws?

Dave, I have 150+ hours on my 4410 and have never had a problem. eHydro has worked well from the start. Like said earlier, best to cycle all hydraulics after shutting down to relieve pressure and have the FEL and BH rest on the ground.

But my dealer sounds like a real pro compared to yours, sorry to have to say. You can fix an installation problem with a tractor -- much harder to fix a poor dealer. Is now the time to bite the bullet and change dealers? After all, you'll need periodic routing service on the 4410 for decades to come and you deserve the peace of mind to know it will be serviced professionally and correctly. I went an extra 40 miles to find a more experienced dealer and the extra transportation costs are tiny compared to the overall expense and hassle.

Dave,
What had you done with the tractor, before it died? (Brush Hogged, finished mowed, loader work, pushed trees etc.)

"I won't buy a Kubota"

I say buy what gives you the best value, otherwise you are setting yourself up for plenty more disappointment in your life.

I've had car dealers tell me that it was against their policy to take from one car to put on the other. If they did, they wouldn't get paid back for the parts without their inventory control etc... Aside from that, it doesn't sound very legal anyway. the sale of new cars is regulated alot more so than just about anything else. Tractors may not have the same laws applied to them as new cars.

Surprisingly, The 3-day buyers remorse policy/law does not apply to new car purchases. That is a myth. OTOH It may very well apply to tractors.

As an aside I would like to say "Kudos" to Skurka, Jerry and elRatto for offering excellant suggestions in the green zone from "outsiders" Ypu really are not... But it is good to get perspective that doesn't end up sounding like "My brand is right at all costs..."

The 30 day return policy only applies to some JD tractors ! ?
Not the way a local dealer represented it to me.

Bob,
Tractors are not protected by laws like auto's. Let the buyer beware. Still a shady practice, I would not like to be the one to buy the stripped tractor....Maybe the 4410 that was bought has already been thru the stripping process for another customer's 4410 problems ??

Each brand has its good points and bad points. Each brand has its good dealers and bad dealers. And every brand is subject to building the occasional bad machine. One thing I like about TBN is that there are a lot of people on the boards who attempt to be unbiased and objective. Granted, as an owner of NH, Kubota, Cub Cadet and Ventrac tractors I tend to favor those brands, but I have also exposed some of their warts and blemishes too. I have dealings with a JD dealership because I own several small JD landscaping tools (lawnmower/weedwacker/etc). But the dealership is a PITA to deal with, I've tried to buy JD tractors but they wouldn't give me the time of day. I don't hold that against the equipment, but I sure hold a grudge against my dealer!

In this case we have a new owner who has a big problem. Granted there is a mechanical problem here, and the tractor sounds like it might be a lemon. BUT I think most of his problem is with his dealership. The sales rep was a problem right off the bat. The service guy who showed up used tools provided by the customer!!! And apprently was clueless & unprepared. IF he decides to replace the tractor, I would hope he would look to a different dealership no matter what his brand choice would be. I certainly would not advocate buying a Kubota from that same dealership either!
