Been thinking about a new 4720 cab tractor. I have a 3720 cab tractor and have some concerns about whether the 4720 would be the same.

1) Heat and A/C in my 3720 cab has always been somewhat anemic -- works but not nearly as good as car or truck. Same in 4720 ??

2) 3PH control on my 3720 cab is not very precise/repeatable when lever is moved and returned to same position. Same in 4720 ??

I like my 3720 cab and will keep it (no trade) but I've been agonizing over whether to get the 4720 cab or a 5000 series cab tractor. I really like the ehydro trans offered on the 4720. No ground engagement work will be done with this tractor. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a 3k series and traded up to the 4k series, and I like it much better. It's a much more capable tractor. However, if you are going to KEEP the 3k tractor, I would look at the 5k series instead of a 4720. Many on here have said that they can purchase the 5083 cab for essentially the same cost as a 4720 cab!! :licking:

I can't help you on the a/c question.

I have noticed similar issues with my 3ph on the 4320. Repeatability is not perfect, but it's pretty close. However, until you get a REAL position control 3ph which is found on the large ag tractors, I think a non-perfect 3ph position return is something we will have to live with.

Your AC is probably fine....this has been a very hot summer (some records, but overall, not the hottest summer in history) and a tractor cab has a lot of glass.

I agree with Roy, lots of glass on a tractor cab.

My 4520 AC works well in the desert southwest so far and being a mechanical contractor I have tested the unit and it works well enough. There have been threads about the roof seals not working properly though and several members have had to get them repaired. You might wan't to have your checked out by the dealer next time it is in for service.

I will post some temperatures in awhile to give you some references that might help you.

If you like the eHydro (1.) and (2.) no ground engagement work will be done with your new tractor...

Seems reasonably straight-forward to me - get the 4720!

1) Same cab is used on the 4x20 and 3x20...so as for the cab portion of the A/C, they're the same...just popped on JDParts and confirmed the Condenser and such is the same on both as well...so I'd say thats the same either way. I've always found my A/C to be exceptionally good...but they did replace the roof seal prior to delivery as they found it to be torn when installing my CD Player.

2) Since day 1 I've fought my 3pt hitch lever to be less then perfect, tough to move, jumpy operation...Found it to be a delivery/Setup problem. This spring after fighting with my tiller I took the time to adjust everything according to the svc manual. Now I'm saying why didnt I do it 3 years ago. For starters the tension was say way high, and the cable was not adjusted correctly.

i had a 3720 cab and traded it for a MY2011 4720 cab - i have lots of hills and wet areas. the 4720 is much more stable on hills and the larger front tires help to keep it from getting stuck in the mud as easy as the 3720. the AC on both seem the same. neither is like a car, but it will keep you from breaking a sweat when it's close to 100 out.

Many thanks for all your input. I visited one of the local JD dealers yesterday and talked with one of the most knowledgeable sales guys around for Deere tractors. The 6330 Premium Cab with IVT transmission would be just the cat's meow but way too much money --- list around $100K with fel, still too much even with almost 20% discount. The 5085M with fel and decently equipped lists around $70K --- better price but no ehydro like transmission. He was thinking the 4720 was not the best solution for my applications --- too light and I already have a 4320 OS tractor.

Bottom line is I decided to postpone getting a new tractor. I wish Deere offered an IVT or ehydro like transmission in the 5000 series. This dealer had a new 6330 on the lot and I would have it if I were a millionaire.

I know the feeling my new 6330 Premium is on hold also.:licking:

Might wan't to check out the ac in your 3720 if you plan on keeping it, I forgot to measure the ambient and outlet air temps yesterday but will do that this afternoon when it warms up. Should give you something for comparison to go by.
