They were (are) great tractors, but along with a premium tractor came a premium

The new tractor looks like a step backwards compared to the 4000 Twenty series.
here are the notes from the JD sales information regarding mid pto compatibility: *4000 TWENTY Tractors with serial numbers ending with 916000 (open operator station [OOS]) and above are not compatible with mid-mount mowers (for grooming). 4000 TWENTY Tractors with serial numbers ending with 946000 (cab) and above are not compatible with mid-mount mowers (for grooming).
It's a shame. The 3000 and 4000 Twenties were really, really nice tractors. Especially the 4000 Twenties. I came "this close" to buying one after testing it out. Very impressive machine all the way around. The only things I didn't like about it were the plastic fenders and price. Other than those two items, it was a winner.That was how I felt after seeing them in person.
