We just bought a Workmaster 55 in October. Currently at 90+ hours. We've seen rain like we've never had before, this winter and the 4wd system has been flawless.

We've been using ours for moving rock, grading the road, moving shavings, moving fencing (boards and posts) and a bit of tilling. Absolutely no complaints. The hydraulics are great, 4wd is great, tranny has been good.

I don't have experience on HST so I can't compare that. My wife runs the tractor probably 80% of the time, she has 2 bad knees (one rebuilt) and back problems (several broken vertebrae in a horse accident) and she is comfortable running it 6-8 hours a day, but of course YMMV.

Exactly, my wife's back bothers her for days after using any kind of clutch now. She use to drive standard transmissions for the higher mileage, but now it is all automatic and HST. I am going to have her try our Hydraulic Shuttle M8540 this summer.

Good tractor imo, but if you had never used a well designed hydro tractor you wouldn't know the difference.;) It is easy to remember when everyone had gear tractors, thats all we had and were glad to have them. I am equally glad to have hst tractors now, kinda spoils you.:)

Welcome!

I have used Geared and HST on landscaping jobs. By far the HST will be less work and much more effecient for close work. One idea is to look at what other established contractors are using in your area. You will find most will be using a HST of some sort. Service and support is the key. You can save money up front but may pay for it in the long run by not having reliable service.

Hello everyone. This is my first post, I really enjoy this website and I hope to receive some good advice regarding my tractor dilemma.

I currently own a 2008 Massey Ferguson 563 with about 400 hours.
It is a very good tractor with a 65hp turbo charged Perkins, shuttle trans, loader with bucket, hydraulic auger, and grapple, and 2 remotes. The problem is that it is two wheel drive.
I have a remodeling/ construction business, so I use the tractor mostly on job sites for dirt-work and debris removal. In this part of Texas it rains most of the winter, so that = a lot of MUD.

I have been researching the following Four wheel drive tractors:
Kubota MX5100 : New Holland work master 55 : Massey Ferguson 2615

Any suggestions, comments, or opinions about these models would be greatly appreciated.

The Kubota M5140 is more comparable 5140.jpg workmaster55.jpgI have the Kubota M5040 been a great tractor, since your going to be doing alot of loader work would go with hyd.shuttle....

You may very well be right about the longevity of the Workmaster being as good thirty years from now as it is today. I have a Deere 820 today that is pushing forty years old, it is as good as it ever was, working in a field it does well. In tight quarters such as a construction site it can't compete with the new tractors though, and that is my point.

Speaking about longevity and dependability have you noticed how few tractors issues about both gear and hydro transmissions there are on TBN? I am not a statistician but I can see that both are very dependable with very good reviews so far.
I have.

+1

The biggest problem I've seen is people using the incorrect oil in their hydro........thinking they can save a buck. The manufacturer knows what's best for the machine they built.
