MyToys:
The only time I run at rated RPM is when I have the John Deere MoCo on the pto. The sickle bar needs to be run at 540 as the crimp and cut operation does better.
Most of the time I run about 400-450 pto rpm. That's for round baling or running my pto rake.
I do notice that when using a rear mount blower (snow), 540 works best. I just ordered a Lucknow 78" rear blower with a hydraulic chute rotator. I was going to go to a 90", but I don't think the 5030 has the suds for that width.
I believe 540 equates to about 2300 rpm. I don't use the digital pto readout when cutting hay. I just set the tach at 2300 and use the digital readout to monitor my ground speed. When mowing in the early day, I run about 3.5 mph and as the crop dries I increase to about 4.5 mph.
I think I told you that I fried my logic circuit that controls the 4 ways as well as the turn indicators. I noticed the malfunction as I was bringing the moCo home last night. The only way to access the module is to pull the dash, which I did. I called my dealer and talked to him about the fried unit. He said he'd order me one and I should have it this weekend. I don't like pulling implements without flashers. They all have SMV emblems on them but motorists seem to ignore them.
He said the unit was $47.50 but he thought it would be a warranty item. Got to have it. Worry about the warranty later. I do buy a lot of tractors as well as implements from this dealer and they always go out of their way for me.
On the tip department:
You probably won't ever use your tractor as hard as I do, but when you engage a heavy pto load, be sure to allow a few seconds for the hydraulic clutch pack to lock up before releasing the clutch. I have once or twice been in a hurry and slipped the pto clutch starting a heavy load like my mower-conditioner. You will know if you slip it, it will scream!!
