Rat,

Nice machine. My RFM is the same beast, 84" LP. What a rugged mower. Anyway, i was using it at about 450 RPM over the weekend and that seemed to be plenty fast enough, never even a hint of slowing down. I'm glad to hear you're doing the same. Thanks!

I've been considering changing the pulley size off the gearbox to a slightly bigger puller to pick up the RPM so that about 2200 RPM which is about 450 RPM on the PTO will speed up the mower RPM. Just a thought if I ever really want more to do.

MyToys:

The only time I run at rated RPM is when I have the John Deere MoCo on the pto. The sickle bar needs to be run at 540 as the crimp and cut operation does better.

Most of the time I run about 400-450 pto rpm. That's for round baling or running my pto rake.

I do notice that when using a rear mount blower (snow), 540 works best. I just ordered a Lucknow 78" rear blower with a hydraulic chute rotator. I was going to go to a 90", but I don't think the 5030 has the suds for that width.

I believe 540 equates to about 2300 rpm. I don't use the digital pto readout when cutting hay. I just set the tach at 2300 and use the digital readout to monitor my ground speed. When mowing in the early day, I run about 3.5 mph and as the crop dries I increase to about 4.5 mph.

I think I told you that I fried my logic circuit that controls the 4 ways as well as the turn indicators. I noticed the malfunction as I was bringing the moCo home last night. The only way to access the module is to pull the dash, which I did. I called my dealer and talked to him about the fried unit. He said he'd order me one and I should have it this weekend. I don't like pulling implements without flashers. They all have SMV emblems on them but motorists seem to ignore them.

He said the unit was $47.50 but he thought it would be a warranty item. Got to have it. Worry about the warranty later. I do buy a lot of tractors as well as implements from this dealer and they always go out of their way for me.

On the tip department:

You probably won't ever use your tractor as hard as I do, but when you engage a heavy pto load, be sure to allow a few seconds for the hydraulic clutch pack to lock up before releasing the clutch. I have once or twice been in a hurry and slipped the pto clutch starting a heavy load like my mower-conditioner. You will know if you slip it, it will scream!!

I don't know how many DIESELs you've had BUT.
Babying a diesel is the worst thing you can do to it.
You have to break it in. Heat is the bestway to do it.
Run it like you stole it is the best way. and it will be around forever. Baby it with good scheduled maintaince.

Hi John - thought I'd toss in the picture of my L5450 again - I've been sorta waiting for more people here to "discover" the bigger L-series models. Kubota has ventured into this power range in the L models before. My rig is a five-cylinder with a 15 gpm front pump, 60 gross hp, 11-foot hoe, and easy-detach 1150 loader. Lots of grunt.

And on the subject of pto speed, I added a 2-speed pto ( link here ) so my engine can loaf at 1800 rpm while the finish mower hums along at 540.

Take care and have fun with that nifty 5030. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Actually, you might decide to go with what Kubotas manual recommends and that is to keep the RPM's below maximum for the first 50 hours. In other words full PTO RPM is fine since the tractor has a maximum engine RPM that exceeds PTO RPM of 540.

What a nice rig. Really like that Bradco Hoe, puts my little BH90 to shame.

Wonders to himself....."i wonder if that hoe will fit on my 5030"?

The Bradco's subframe is very tightly integrated to the 5450's loader and rear axles, so this one wouldn't fit the 5030 - but they must have one that does.

Wonders to himself......."i wonder if my wife would notice if i traded the 5450 in on a new 5030 HST?"

Congrats, sounds like you're enjoying your 5030 as much as I'm enjoying mine!

I've got 26 hours so far. I would have more but the weekends are to **** short! The only problem I have thus fare is the leaky FEL connections that 5030 mentioned. I'm going to try the pipe tape recomendation and see if that stops the leaks. Other than that this baby is great.

I'm thinking of getting the backhoe next year. If you don't mind me asking, what did RIH charge? How well does it dig? Is it easy to take off?

Thanks
