New 5075M is at the dealer's!

I should know what tire size they are since I just got my 6430p last year.... I will check the quote I have and see what size they are....
Thanks guys! I'm curious if anyone has custom ordered anything larger than 12.4R24 fronts on a 5M without running into issues.

I understand that you want the front axle speed to be between 1-5% faster than the rear. So the challenge would be to find something wider for the front, and get something that would match on the rear while maintaining the 1-5% faster ratio.

Perhaps a conservative step up would be a 14.9R24 on the front, but I'm pretty sure I would have to up the rears as well to maintain a proper axle speed ratio.

Here are some numbers using Titan Hi Traction Lug specs:

I don't know the front/rear drive train ratio of the 5085M, nor do I know if a 18.4R34 will clear the rear fenders.

I suppose the perfect solution would be if JD offered some wide R24 rims with a tire that was close to matching the 138" rolling circumference of the stock 12.4R24. This way, I could leave the rear tires/rims alone.

14.9R-24 and 18.4R-34 Firestones. I pretty much had to change em cause of the Frey's lift capacity but I also HATED the Goodyear/Titan Dyna Torques that came on it. I had the dealer swap em from a 6330.
You can now get 13.6R-24 and 16.9R-30 Michelins which is a great combo.

By the way, Michelin also makes the Multibib and Omnibib lines which are wider tires that fit stock rims.

MartianTractorMan,

I bought this tractor thinking that it would be my main tractor. So, I went through everything, fixed and made everything right. Unfortunately, soon after that I began losing my hearing, and therefore became very concerned about my exposure to noise. My father died last year. In the final years of his life he struggled with some serious health issues, but he said to me the most difficult to deal with was his loss of hearing, because of how isolating it was for him. Anyway, that is why the 2355 is so beautiful, and looks as if it has hardly ever been used.

I won't be using it, so I either need to trade it or sell it. I wish that I had the extra money to just have it in the barn.

Island Farmer,

Is it possible you keep your 2355? I know 12k is 12k but that tractor is a beaut! If you could keep it and sell it if/when you really need too I would see that as best. I would love to have something like that around to toy around with in my spare time and to keep it and the 5085M would be a really sweet combo!

AKfish,

Thank you again for all of your help. I am in a hurry right now, but wanted to let you know that I think I am making progress on my deal.

Island Farmer

Island Farmer;

The lowest bid I received was from Washington Tractor in Olympia. I believe the salesman's name was Jason.

One of the highest bids I got was from Washington Tractor in Port Townsend. Go figure...

I gather that those stores are now part of a larger group that has just (within the past 2 years or so) consolidated with the latest string of JD dealership buyouts across the nation.

Nonetheless, I would have bought a tractor from the Olympia folk's but they fell down completely on the shipping end of the transaction - told me I'd have to negotiate directly with the shipper, etc. on cost and logistics - deal breaker; right there!

As you, no doubt can appreciate - one of the strongest components of the nation's economy; even with the current downturn - is the Agricultural sector. Farmer's and rancher's are making money! Input costs are problematic but the profit margin's are good and the current, 100% 1-year depreciation write off has got folk's lined up at the dealership's front counter!

That said, dealer's can afford to play "hard to get" right now! IMHO, dealer's are making money on 15% tractor's...

Couple of things that come to mind - your 2355 is a beauty! Very nice tractor and obviously well maintained. Your dealer is "low balling" you on the trade-in - IMO. If you sell it yourself, I think you could readily get $12.5K Craig's List is generally a problem for buyers - dealing with crooked sellers. Selling a piece of equipment is less of a problem 'cause if they don't have the cash...

I can't speak to your relationship with your dealer and how "firm" they are on the sale price - but, if you're close enough to other dealership's and can haul the tractor yourself, etc. You could always feel those dealer's out on a quote. If nothing else, you would have a better idea of how much your local dealer "values" your continued business with them. If they have a committment towards keeping you as a customer - you'll know - based upon how different the quotes are.

Best of luck.

Sorry about your father, my condolences.

Sure have rebuilt that thing to beauty but I understand the noise concern. A nice 5085M with a cab sure would be a lot quieter.

I would put it on Craigslist or 14500. Even find out about any tractor/car shows to take it to and put a for sale sign on it in your area. There's a couple around me and a lot of people buy/sell stuff at those show. And that definitely belongs in one. If you make it clear to the dealer that the deal depends on that amount though and he really wants the sale, he'll come through for you.

Thanks. They look great from the picture! The rolling circumference ratio does change from 0.754 to 0.764 front to rear, but thats only 1%, so should be fine. My main concern was if the 18.4R-34 would clear the rear fenders, but that does not appear to be an issue.

So here's my config. I'm going to ask for 16% off list and swapping of the tires for free. If I can get out the door for $65k, minus trading in my 4700, I'm probably doing pretty good.

Any other reasons for getting the Frey loader over JD's? Just curious:thumbsup:

Any other reasons for getting the Frey loader over JD's? Just curious:thumbsup:

The main reason was being able to see better. I wanted self levelling but the JD SL bars restrict visibility somewhat. Other reasons were:

Capacity to full height 4100 lbs @ ? center (forget the spec.) I think this is close to the 563.

Reach at trailer height; I can usually pick everything from one side.

Max. lift height quite a bit higher than the 563SL.

Tucked in a little closer for maneuverability when lowered.

Price was almost the same as the 563SL.

Factory is about an hour from my house.

Getting the Frey was the hardest decision I had to make when I bought the tractor, but no regrets. The 563SL is an awesome loader as well and the new H series I believe, are better again.
