Re: new 84\" finishing mower

True, I know what you mean. But to put it into perspective, I have already put my mower away for the season. Our growing time is over up here.

When we hay here we get roughly 2-3 bales/acre (5x6 1800lb) on the one cut we do each year, but my cousin in Iowa gets that every cut, 3 a year, so we average 1/3 the yield he does.

Re: new 84\" finishing mower

One thing you may want to think about is a guard of some sort. I have a Landpride 2584 and have thrown things out the back, and watched them sail for quite a ways, and mine is already deflected downward at the exit.

I've had to replace the left rear tire twice now from either running over something or impaling it. I now have both rear tires foam filled. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It looks like there would be plenty of room to fabricate a shield and hang it just in front of the rear tires. This would allow the grass to be thrown from the mower (not cause clumping), yet slow down or stop any potential projectile.

And, Nice Rig! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Buhler has a chain guard I can buy. Maybe next year.

Re: new 84\" finishing mower

I have the same mower and never have had that issue. I routinely mow over small tree clippings. I did impale the tire with a piece of wire, but it was obviously picked up and not thrown. I mow about 6 acres a week, rotating between my various grass areas. The mower has been bullet proof and even in the sometimes tall grass situations, the belt and drive system feel and look like new. I was told the belt will break if routinely cutting heavy material from some folks here. Not a chance, that belt looks like it is still new after 3 years and plenty of mowing. I mow from March well into November. Aug/Sep seem to be the fastest growing period.

Re: new 84\" finishing mower

I have considered a RFM on occassion but have not bit yet. But the Idea of a larger mower deck is interesting. I am all about speed and if it makes me get it done quickler. I have a 54" MMM, but before I got it I considered an RFM, but shied away from it because I was concerned about some of the turns I needed and the shrubs and trees on my lot.

Re: new 84\" finishing mower

Time is of the essence for me as well. I have some days like yesterday where I work insane hours and don't want to take forever to do my yardwork. So the bigger my machine can handle the more I can accomplish. Unlike you guys though my mowing season is over.

RFM's take some getting used to. But then again so does driving a car or walking. It all come with practice.

Re: new 84\" finishing mower

Gee, that is huge! I think i can get by with a smaller one on my 4100, but that one is tempting. I would mow my entire lawn in about 15 minutes.
