2210
hey, nice web site you guys and gals have here, I have a 2210 like I see lots of folks do and it has been running fine for the last 8 years except that the rings are worn and I have to put in oil a little each time I use it.
any way, I was cutting the grass on Friday when the the tractor seemed a bit sluggish and would pop every so often. Radiator was running fine, not hot. but the Oil stick/filler was extremely hot! Could not touch it at all. Seems to be a bunch of air coming out of it when running and spitting oil out when I have the stick out. Talked to the guy at EFC and he said blown head gasket. Seems right to me. I just never had a gasket go with the exhaust side, usually i just get water and oil mixed. What do you guys thing and has this happed to you? I needed to do the rings anyway so this will be my first time with piston, sleeves and rings. Should be fun.
thanks again,
Erick

I pulled the heads today to see what was up before I order parts. the valves looked crusty and so did the pistons but not bad, Head gasket did not look bad. Hope to pull the pistons tomorrow to see how bad the rings are. It looks like i also need a new belt and I might as well flush the radiator and clean things up a bit. I did fire it up just before i took it apart. Started good and Idle was fine but when i reved it up a bit the RPMs went up and then down. Strange. Oh well, hope it is nothing too major.

drained the oil yesterday day and a friend of mine suggested i put some oil on the pistons to check for leak down. SO I put some tractor transmission fluid on the pistons and the oil is still there after 24 hours. I was sure it would leak down. Hopefully I can pull the oil pan and pop out the pistons. I will keep everyone informed.

Just pulled the pistons, first for me! Not too hard at all. Any way i believe I found the culprit. the oil ring on both of the pistons looked stuck in on one side and there is severe scoring and gouging on the pistons. Ouch!
Rod bearings were a bit scratchy also. Crank looked good. Just ordered parts and I will work on cleaning up things and getting the radiator boiled out in the mean time.
Question, is there any good way to get gasket material off that is really sealed for the oil pan? It is on the motor side.
thanks
Erick
