New Asphalt Driveway - How Soon to Drive Tractor over it?

Hey - I have a gravel driveway and could not care less if my vehicles leave "foot prints". And, I care more that the air stays inside my tires. If you drive a very heavy vehicle over an asphalt driveway on a really hot summer day - well, you just might leave foot prints.

Well if tires are at 40 PSI and U let air out to 20 PSI then you should have 1/2 the PSI's on the asphalt.
Try it and let us know!

Yes, but over twice the footprint area.

Just drive over it But don't park on it for a couple weeks with the tractor...........

I get the logic, if you put more weight on the tire it squishs out and makes a bigger foot print so the ground pressure is the same. It does not work that way. Take an extreme example. Take a 18 wheeler semi fully loaded. Now take off all the tires except a few, say 6, enough to hold the truth up. There is now way the ground psi is the same per tire.

Does the pressure in the tire climb as more load is put on it?

Wonder what happens if a tire inflated to 40 PSI is taken off the hub and set aside on its own. It should maintain its 40 PSI but does it still keep 40 PSI on the ground? :confused3:

No the pressure is now 0 psi as you have 6 blow outs :D

Ahhh... now we are getting into another law of physics known as Boyles law.

Glad you mentioned that.....I was scratching my head.

What happens "X" years down the road if/when that tree dies and has to come down....you have a hole there that needs to be addressed. You can't dig the rootball out now (at least easily)

The driveway is beautiful!!! Wife & I (more her than me) are tinkering with laying a concrete drive here. I fear I'd break it up with the tractor or backhoe on it....

None the less.....if I were doing that here, I would have taken the tree out. I view it as too many (potential) issues in the future.

I have learned the hard way that saving trees close to a house, or driveway, is never a good idea.
Built a new house and saved a close oak tree.
Tree died 2 years later.
Built another new house, and saved a big maple tree.
Tree blew over in a storm, 3 years later.

I heard they are doing away with those expensive scales at the weigh stations along the highway - they finally realized they can just check the tire air pressure on the trucks.
