Rob,

Your dog doesn't look too happy. Maybe he thinks he's going to be replaced by your new BH?

Now your wife is thinking....mmmm.... I have a whole Summer of work for my husband! (darn my seat time /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

Thanks for the compliment, Rob
This size is what the dealer recommended for the tractor, although they do make larger hoes to fit it, being 55hp and having the FEL and weight. I've been told that a subframe is the only way to go to reduce the stress on the 3pt.

I'm sure I'll find lots to do with it. Here in CA, renting or hiring work done is super expensive. Renting is cheaper. Depending on the rig you get, they charge about $90/hr to have work done. You have to pay for getting the rig TO your property and getting it BACK to their yard.

awlchu,
Don't know about the dog, but my wife is sure to jump in that thing and start digging all over the place.

When I first bought a 4x4 ATV I tried to convince her it was for working around the property (not just hunting and fun). Well, she gave me a hard time about it but NOW I can't get her off it! She's got all kinds of crap set up on it now, a basket, a 25gallon sprayer(not the little one in this picture) and her pistol holster. Geez...Attached is a picture of her on it.

Now that I bought the tractor, I'm sure it won't be long before she starts showing me up on it!

A quick google search for 'nardi backhoe' shows a decent price for that rig! I did not realize how many companies are making backhoes for our size tractors.. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You are right there. As a matter of fact, I did quite a lot of research as to which backhoe was the best for the money...still don't know for sure, but this NARDI sure is nice. I had a Mazzotti 200 before this one. Also Italian and built pretty good too but it was too small. Mazzotti, Farmline, Nardi, Prarie Dog Diiger, Woods etc all make hoes of different diggiging depth for our tractors.

My good buddy Dkrug here on the forems sells Prarie Dog Ditch Diggers and almost went with him but I had already firmed up a deal for the entire rig. He recommends a subframe for ANY backhoe is better than not. I tend to agree with him after seeing how much power this Nardi has.

The Chinese models, like the LW7 or so may not be as sturdy or strong as the ones listed above...I don't know myself...but I was told by several dealers to stay away from them, so I did. Seems like the Italians have a knack for backhoes.
Very happy with this one.
Thanks,

I would totally agree on the subframe. I've followed some of the BH threads here and would think that any BH would need a subframe. It would seem to be a huge amount of stress on the 3pt. Maybe not to bad if everyone just dug with them, but from what I've read it's digging boulders and ledge out, yanking on tree stumps, etc. One guy here recently busted out the back of his tractor without a subframe.

Rob,
I agree the BH should have a subframe for strength. Also if your tractor is still under warranty and something breaks using the hoe, they may not cover the damage. I know Mahindra's warranty is like this. I wanted to buy another brand hoe w/ subframe since I thought the Mahindra dealer wanted too much. The dealer told me to wait till its out of warranty. Unless you buy the BH they sell with subframe they won't cover the warranty even if you use another brand BH with subframe.

Rob,
Where did you read that, I'b be interested in reading it myself because it'll be some time before I get to making a sub-frame. Sure don't want that to happen to me.
I would appreciate the link.
Thanks,

George,
I didn't know that. I wonder what my dealer would do about that because 1) He recommended this size backhoe and sold it to me as a package deal and 2) He has not provided, nor did he offer to provide or make available to buy a sub-frame for my tractor and backhoe.
Of course that doesn't mean he will cover any damage caused by the backhoe, but I thought there might be some implied responsibility in light of their recommendation and package deal?
I wonder if that circumstance would be stated anywhere in the contract or otherwise? I sure don't recall seeing it anywhere.

Rob,
It doesn't hurt to ask the dealer about the warr. If the dealer recommended that hoe, it doesn't mean he'll warranty it if your tractor breaks. My warranty specifies what is not covered and I quote "Utilization of non-Mahindra type front end loaders, mid mount mowers and/or backhoes may result in damage to your Mahindra Tractor and void this warranty. This warranty does not cover damage, as determined in the sole judgement of Mahindra, caused by non mahindra loaders, mid mount mowers, and/or backhoes". Mahindra buys loaders, mid mount mowers, and backhoes from various companies and authorizes their use on different model tractors. The warranty basically says that if Mahindra doesn't sell or authorize the use these mentioned attachments for your model tractor and you go aftermarket with one they did not sell as an option, it could void the warr. Read the fine print on yours. If the dealer tells you your backhoe won't void your warranty, get it in writing from him.
P.S. It's a great looking hoe. Maybe larger tractors don't require a subframe? Eventually I will get a BH for mine.
George
