new \'bota coming

After reading several posts, decided on a B2710 over JD4200
Test drive went well, as well as some prior experience with Kabota which steered me in that direction. Liked the heft of the 4200, but went with gut instinct. Got the B2710 4WD, HST, 5' FEL, bucket hook, filled r-4s, 7 1/2 Woods hoe, and 7ft
Woods rear blade, pkg $23,500. Good reputable local dealer.
Sound within reason?? Does anyone think 7ft blade is a little much?? Could have hired out a lot of help for 23k, but had to promise my son I'd buy it to pry his hands off the wheel...(Ya...right!) I think the "boss" is gonna make me pay for this, although she has recently grown fond of my ridin' mower. Any thoughts or comment appreciated by a new guy on the board.

Somewhat depends on what you're pulling with it, but off-hand I would say that is a bit much for the 2710. I would have gone with a 5' or 6' on that tractor.

Re: new \'bota coming

For the blade, if using it mainly for snow than 7ft. is fine. I used a heavy 8 ft. blade on my B8200HST and will use it on my new B2710. You can't expect it to work wonders in the dirt, but if you take little bites it will work. I don't have to use it in dirt but maybe once every few years, so I can get by with the 8 ft. blade. In snow its great for doing the driveway and my ice rink.

Re: new \'bota coming

sounds like u got a very nice rig. think u may have over done it on the 7 ft. blade tho.u might have been better off with the 6 ft. depends on what u want to do? also the bigger the blade the more u have sticking out that u need to watch. don't want to run into something accidently/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif makes for a bad day. but u will like it. interested to know how the hoe works out.

Re: new \'bota coming

Thanks guys, went back today and changed to Ag tires, questioned the blade with another employee who said it was fine. As you guys mentioned, i'll have to watch my wife's vehicle, kids, dogs, etc,and make sure my belts on when going between trees. Will be mainly used for light gravel driveway grading, snow, weeds/brush. I still got time to change my mind
10 days to delivery. Don't really know if they suggested the 7ft to get rid of it, or because they thought it might be better for snow and for grading my gravel (mud) second driveway. I'll be interested with the hoe set up as well, having used a B20 rig before. I've got some drainage issues to work out to fix the driveway,as well as a retaining wall to build, some old cement posts to pull, and a very heavy fire hydrant with a 5'
tailpiece to remove, (put in for my dogs' convenience), and several wooded acres to play, WOOPS!, I mean work with. Thanks for the response, enjoy this site tremendously!

Whoops! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I miss-read your message, and was thinking you were getting a 7' box blade! Sorry about that. A 7' rear blade is pprobably OK. You usually use it at an angle, and the frontal area is much smaller than 7'.

While you're waiting for your new rig, there were some good posts in another thread about building up driveways and drainage issues/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: new \'bota coming

PJ I too am interested in how you make out with your setup. I`m considering a similar setup(2710) to do similar jobs (drainage, digging out predecessors installations). Congrats on taking the plunge...from a guy that is still sitting on the edge of the pool /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: new \'bota coming

thanks for the info on the driveways, saw some of that in another post. I'll keep you guys updated on rig when I get it and let you know how the hoe and blade work. the hoe was somewhat of a concern, so w'ell see how good it is, all I can compare to is a B20, as I have no other experience...I was told to spend the extra few grand for the B21 if I was going to use the hoe all the time, and didn't need the extra HP you get on the rear PTO with the 2710 for other implements. Don't plan on cutting any grass with it, but who knows, maybe the wife will like it better than the ridin' mower!!!!!! Keep on diggin' and thanks for the replies...

Re: new \'bota coming

Yeh, took the plunge all right. Used some wife psychology to justify somewhat also. Have to dig out banking area for instillation of decks for HER hot tub. And spead HER bark mulch, move HER brush, grade HER gravel driveway, and build HER retaining wall. She wants the work done, gotta have the right TOOL, right???
