Hi, this is my first post. Two months ago I purchased a new BX2360 with the 60 inch mowing deck. I have a 3+ acre lawn and I bought it for this purpose only. It has now 12 hours on the engine. The dealer is coming to pick it up on Thursday under warranty but I thought I would post the situation here because I'm really curious as to what it could be.

First of all, up until today, the performance has been incredible. I could not be happier with this unit. However, after mowing for about one hour today I looked down and noticed a black oily carbony "mist" deposit on the front and sides of the mowing deck and in the rims of the front wheels. The misting is a little denser on the left side of the tractor. I took some paper towels and wiped off the misting and within two minutes of mowing the oil was back. There is also some misting on the orange painted metal surface directly below the seat. I checked the engine oil level later on and it is fine. I am wondering if it is coming from the actual mowing unit.

I'm confident that the dealership will take care of it but I'm really wondering what it could be.

Any help will be appreciated

Sounds a little like soot coming out of the exhaust pipe which is on the lower left side of the tractor. Was it windy when you mowed and this happened? Not that you should expect exhaust soot all over your machine but perhaps that's where it's coming from. My front end loader gets black on the left side from exhaust soot, but it's localized to a few feet from the exhaust pipe.

As I recall, my new BX (in 2009) was overfilled with UDT transmission oil as received from the dealer. The result was oil running down from somewhere under the dash and leaking onto the battery and below to the MMM. I didn't know about the overfill and figured it was a leak at some connector under there but couldn't find anything that was loose. It made quite a mess. The dealer rep asked me to check the transmission stick and drain some oil out accordingly. Well, that was it!......now on to the front axle that was so low on axle fluid (also UDT) that it didn't even touch the stick. Better check the tire pressures also...some were way off. Oh........and "Welcome to TBN".

And...be sure to follow up and let us know what the dealer finds.

I certainly will. After taking another look yesterday evening it appears the oil may be coming from the mowing deck (RCK60B23BX). When I removed the plastic belt guards from the top of the deck I noticed that the left side spindle shaft had a heavy build up of black oil around it. I couldn't see any oil leak or residue around the gearbox however.
