New BX Model Announced

I agree, I don't see the point of a simple HP increase in the sub class. I would think 23 HP would be more than adequate, especially without more weight to help get it to the ground.

Keith: I've always appreciated your POV and your helpful comments. Please understand that my disagreements here are just a matter of opinion based on how I would use the tractor differently in my own situation.

??? Does anyone think the BX2200/2230/2350/23/24 is hurting for horsepower?

Actually, yes. I would like to be able to apply more HP to a generator and a chipper/shredder without going to a larger/heavier tractor.

Some suggestions, if I may:
--Larger pump (more volume available for multi-function use of BH? Higher ground speed?)

I agree with the larger pump. My durapan (ultrahard hardpan) is probably not bh diggable with the BX pressure. More pressure to a BH might make it possible to rip through it. Three HST ranges would be nice for a LOWER gear range in that I could apply more torque when pulling a sub-soiler in my hard clay topsoil and the claypan that is between the clay and the durapan.

--Higher capacity FEL?

I think the current capacity, when full of clay or rocks, already throws the balance off, even with a counterweight.

--Longer wheelbase or wider stance? The BX could use more stability, not more power.

Personally, if I wanted a slightly longer/wider wheelbase, I think that already exists in the B series. I need to keep the tractor small for manuvering in small spaces, but could use the extra hp in the ways listed above. I also want to keep it small and light so that I don't have to go to a larger trailer and tow vehicle.

I would like to see a similar BX26 (same new engine) with backhoe. (Can this be far behind?) Optional things I'd recommend adding beyond the BX24 are: thumb that comes welded in place, bh rip shank like the Bro-Tek, hydraulic cutter attachment for end of BH arm (to cut roots), grapple for FEL, 4 way FEL bucket. An optional removable cab and air conditioner would be a dream for the times when I'm brush hogging in 115 degree heat and the pulverized material is as thick as a dust storm.

If others would add to this list below, things they would like to see added to or upgraded on this same tractor, just possibly Kubota might consider some of the suggestions. What would the ideal BX be like?

"Best in Class Torque" be a more respectable achievement?Torque is everything, HP is consequential.

Yes, yes, and yes. Torque is king in this application, no doubt. Thank you for clarifying. Blindly assumed the weren't trading Torque for HP, but it would be nice (and telling) to provide the power/torque curve so we can assess it for ourselves.

The best engine in the world (IMHO) is an 8-cylinder 16-valve pushrod wonder-brick in a cute little car called the Corvette. Others can easily extract 400 HP out of a 2 liter engine at 17,000 rpm, but without torque, it can't push much more than a motorcycle. Honda S2000. Mazda RX-7/8. Mitsu Evo. All amazing cars that make zero torque when not at 7,000 rpm (and little torque even then). But a small illustration of your point.

That comment means a great deal to me. Thank you.

I guess in the context of your thoughts, when does the BX become a little B? I mean, how much more could it do before it "outgrows" its frame? Not much more FEL, I agree. Larger chipper, sure...but even with 26 HP and this machine chomping at 3 inch limbs, the thought would be "what about 32 HP so I can do 4 inch limbs". At some point, one needs to consider a larger tractor since you can't lug around the chipper that the ENGINE is capable of running because the FRAME/3PH is too small.

I agree with the "larger wheelbase" thought. Just cultivating possible directions for the BX line. Looks like it is getting larger tires unless I'm not looking at the picture right. They look bigger anyway. Dunno.

To have a bump in engine size without a larger hydraulic pump would be pointless. Full concurrence on that point. That, a larger deck and a little more tire? What else could you do before you flirt with a B7610 that is short on size and capacity?

But who really cares. They've done a great job with the BX line. Some could call it their bread and butter, in some regards. To offer it with more HP wouldn't offend me one little bit. It'd just be nice for them to throw some chili power in the gravy to give it a little kick.

The larger engine should tell you that you should have more torque. Now, to have a wider deck would require a longer wheel base with larger tires and that is where the larger B-series comes in! Unless someone could build a four blade mower to shorten the front to rear distance of the deck.

Why not 5 blades. Have them counter-rotating and embedded like a Chinnook. That'd get rid of those pesky blades of grass that sneak through a normal 3 blade arrangement in a turn.

Gillette does it, why can't we? DREAM BIG, GUYS!!! I want a MACH 2 tip-speed on those suckers. A billion miniature sonic booms a minute. YEAH!!!

I couldn't quite tell, but I wondered whether the wheel rim is a larger diameter, the sidewalls narrower, and the outer tire diameter unchanged. I'm seeing a lot of cars now with those very narrow sidewalls. They say that within 20 years, the wheel/rim will have so much flex and ability to absorb shock that tires will no longer be pneumatic. The rubber will be applied straight to the steel with no air involved.

Great, even tractors aren't safe... next model that comes out will be sittin' on dubs with spinners.
