I am preparing to purchase my first tractor a new BX 2200. I have three acres on a lake in Norhtern MI. Most is wooded maybe only 1/2 to 3/4 acre of lawn. My primary use of the BX is to landscape and take care of 100ft of beach composed of rock, gravel, sand mix and to take care of 1700 ft of stone sand driveway. I beleieve I have a good price from my local dealer 12500 for BX 2200, FEL, 60in mower, and, rear scraper blade, plus added wt to rear all delivered. My dilemma now is what tires? ag or turf they will be the same price but I cannot decide for sure? I have heard the Ag's will not tear up the lawn as the BX is light. Will they provide increase in clearance and more traction on the rock beach? I would welcome all thoughts on this subject.

If your primary use was mowing a finished area i would recommend turf tires. But it sounds like you would be better off with the AG's. The AG's will give better traction pulling the blade and working with the FEL. You can minimize damage to finished area if you stay off the area when wet, don't use 4WD on the lawn unless you have to, take it a little slower especially when turning and don't turn too tight. You will really enjoy your BX. I have turfs on mine but im on a finished area most of the time.

I don't disagree with Russ but I will say that turfs in 4wd with the diff lock, well, I'm sure it CAN get stuck but it would be a hell of a mess if you did find a way to get it stuck.
If you have a nice lawn to mow. get the turfs. If you find that you need the ags later (I may getthem for plowing) they only cost $300 mounted with wheels from Kubots (not aftermarket). Not bad eh?

Unfortuantely I do not think there are any R4 type tires available for the BX--yet. Also, the so called ags are not true ags but have a lower and much fatter profile than traditional ags with somewhat less aggressive bars. They are not bad on turf as much as you might think. From the description of your needs I think the "ags" are the way to go. Using a loader they provide significantly improved traction so my dealer says and I can vouch that my BX rarely wants for traction. I also suspect that your being way up there in Minnesota that snow removal will be an issue that will require ags. You will find the BX with the mower removed can get around in the "rough" fairly well but if you are planning some real off road forays you might consider the 7100/7500 though in my opinion the BX will do it for you. Further consideration leads me to conclude as Trescrow has said. $300 is cheap, but why pay it at all. Get the Ags. You certainly will need good traction for sure, and we are UNcertain that the ags will be a hinderence. Therefore, best bet, ags.
