New BX25D Owner - Boom Cylinder Problem

Good thought. Had that exact issue with my FEL joystick when the tractor was new. I actually called the dealer for service and they sent a truck out. When the guy got there, he removed the screen under the steering wheel and a nut fell out. Boy did I feel stupid having called for service before looking at it myself. The service dude must have thought I was one of those city slickers or something.

Ha...before I inspected the situation a bit closer and found the bolt disconnected, I was ready to call the dealer too...just those thoughts of major insurmountable problems that you won't be able to handle, going through your mind at the time you discover something not working... :D

Check the simple stuff first- I would check to make sure all 3 Back hoe hoses couplings are connected properly. You cant tell by looking at it, but its best to disconnect and reconnect the hoses. If your dealer showed you how to put the back hoe down ( halfway off the tractor) you will have full access to the 3 hoses QD's.

This evening I spent a while trying to trouble shoot the boom cylinder issue. I visually checked for leaks. I did not see any. I pulled the rubber boot up on the boom joystick and looked down with a flashlight. Everything appeared to be connected. I let the tractor warm up for about 5 minutes. The boom cylinder took about 5 minutes to push the boom away from the tractor. I did this twice. Same deal. The boom would pull back to the tractor within a few seconds. The backhoe would cycle side to side without issue. The stabilizers, backhoe bucket, and dipper stick all worked normally, so did the front end loader. I suspect a valve in the assembly below the BH joysticks, but that's a guess on my part. I will call the dealer and ask it to send a service truck to correct the problem.

Interestingly, I did find a broken 1.25" rubber O-ring on the boom cylinder piston rod. I don't know enough to say whether this had anything to do with the issue.

I had a few problems with my bx25d. The fist was the throttle lever just broke on day 2. Dealer sent a truck out and I was running in 20 mins. A few weeks later the backhoe was leaking and the service truck came out that day and tightened a hose. I felt stupid not doing that myself. The about 3 weeks ago the hose came lose again and the line got cut. Well I did have to wait 4 days later for parts and it was fixed in a hour. I am so glad that I have a good dealer right down the road.

Big Development. Not being able to find an obvious fix to the boom cylinder problem, I called the dealer. Dealer said that a piece of sheet metal probably had worked loose in the joystick housing and was interfering with the joystick. Dealer said that had happened to another customer. Dealer said it would be a two minute repair and they would send a truck. I got home from work to find the tractor gone. Being in a low-crime area, I assumed dealer found a bigger problem and had taken the tractor to the dealership. The next day I called the dealer. Dealer said there was a problem with a valve.

To save me from waiting for parts/repairs, dealer gave me a brand new backhoe unit and returned the tractor to my driveway that day. Needless to say, I am extremely pleased with the level of service I received. Dealer is Wallingford Equipment in Auburn, Maine: Wallingford Equipment - Wallingford Equipment has been in business since 1953. I guess I know why.

Glad to see good dealers out there. I am fortunate that within 30 miles I have 2 good Orange dealers, 2 good JD dealers, and a Mahindra/New Holland dealer. All have been in business over 20 years.

That's great service! Glad your dealer didn't give you the so familiar "runaround" which is so prevalent out there these days!
