Well... I done it! The decision between a cab 4520 or a cab 5065M is over! I bought a new 5065M from Mutton's in Fort Wayne, IN.

When my local dealer wouldn't budge from $52K on a 4520 optioned out the way I wanted - he pushed me right over to a 5065 for $58.4K delivered to Alaska from Mutton's.

I ordered the tractor with cab, buddy seat, 16x16 PowerReverser, MFWD, radio, mirrors, engine and tranny heaters, grill guard with brush guard, horn, PR modulator, front FEL 3rd SCV, 2 rear SCV, rear window washer-wiper, brake lights, iMatch quick hitch, ballast box, fender extensions, skid plates, auxillary work lights and lockable fuel cap.

563 NSL loader with joystick 3rd SCV function and skid steer attachment with 84" bucket.

Frontier RB2296 rear blade with hyd offset.

Shane thought it would be here by Mid-March.

No more fightin' snow and sleet in my Carrharts!! Crank that heater up - Yeah!

Awsome! You know the rules about pictures when it gets here...

Congratulations sounds like you got a great deal, and for that little bit more money one extremely powerful tractor can't wait to see pictures. If I'm lucky I'll be closing on a 5095M myself I gave the dealer and offer I'll be calling later this afternoon to see if he excepted you certainly got a lot of extra options good for you just curious why you didn't get the self-leveling loader? Take care

AKfish,
That will be a nice tractor for you.

Just checking temperatures for the next 10 days on Weather.com, here in southern New Mexico we will be much colder than Kasilof.

On the rear blade, I am curious how you plan to set up the hydraulics? It would seem you need about four sets of valves on the rear for top link, tilt, offset and blade angle. If you option the third scv on the rear it would really help with the rearblade setup. I would suggest an electric diverter from Surplus Hydraulics that could be mounted directly on the blade to handle the offset and blade angle with less hoses. This could be plugged into the rear third scv and still have the first and second scv for top and tilt. I think this is important enough to make sure you have this option from the start. The 2296 looks to be a good choice for moving large amounts of snow and is well matched to your new tractor.

On my 110tlb I tied into the front auxillary circuit lines so that I have front and rear couplers. This was the easiest way to get to four rear sets of couplers. The 4520 has three sets of rear couplers and adding a forth and fifth coupler would be costly, haven't done it yet. If I had it to do over again I would have added the electric diverter valve to the 4520 regardless of the fact that I had no plans for the fel on it.

I think you will like the new cab enough that you will wonder why you didn't get a cab for the 110tlb. Enjoy your new tractor and get us some pics.:D

Congratulations! Please share with us how a person in Alaska ends up working with a dealer in IN? Do you know if it will be shipped to Fort Wayne, then up to you or directly to dealer in your area?

Congratulations and I hope you like it because I just took delivery Saturday of a new JD 5083E with AF11G hydraulic snow plow blade (see picture) for the same purposes. I've never had a cab tractor before and must say I already really appreciate the comfort of heat!

Fort Wayne is about 90 miles from me! Almost my backyard.

Congrats on your choices. I think you made a lot of good ones.
I think you will be glad you went with the 563 loader over the 553. Also skid steer and 3rd function for the loader.

PR modulator, let us know how you like that, it would have been on my want list too. My choice of trans too!

What PTO? I think 540 & 540E is std.

About the only thing I did not see on your list was wheel weights, but probably not needed with a cab.

Hard to believe delivery in only 6 weeks!

Will there be fighting for the buddy seat? That would have been my main reason to go bigger over the 4520! :D

Curious, what is shipping to AK? Did they break it down to a price per mile? When I bought my JD6415 it was $1050 to deliver from TN to MI

Thanks, all.

Yep... pictures all-around when it gets here! Have to show it compared to the 110. Maybe squeeze the 9n in the middle, too. :D

The 563SL was about $850 more than the 563NSL. I cut back on what I was originally shootin' for on the loader and the R1 radials, etc. (There's a LIMIT on what I could expect my wife to go along with...) ;)

Steve, I don't think I'm gonna plumb the rear blade for tilt right away. I just don't use tilt all that much.. angle and offset are the biggest uses with the top function as a distant third. So, I can get by with 2 SCV's for the time being. Down the road, I just might pursue a hydraulic arrangement in the fashion you laid out.

Oh yah, I forgot - maxed out the wheel weights - 2 per rear wheel.

It'll be shipped from Ft. Wayne to Alaska. The dealer will have to do some field install and setup before they turn it over to the shipper. I haven't checked on the mileage to IN from here but I gotta imagine it's close to 4,500.

Yes, the 540E pto is standard.

The 5083E is a great buy on some serious horsepower! I really looked hard at one. In the end - the problem with Cat 1 vs Cat II - and the implements I currently have tilted towards a 65hp machine. My attachments would not likely hold together real well over time hooked up to 83hp!!!

Nah, the buddy seat contest will just be my wife and youngest son. At least, until they get comfortable with the bigger iron and the new transmission! Then, I might be sittin' in the buddy seat.

Many of the dealerships I contacted didn't take my inquiry very serious at all..!! A number of them did not reply to my email(s) and several did not call back. The folk's at Mutton's wanted my business! I appreciated that attitude! I likely could have kept "kickin' the brush" and scared out another couple of percent off of MSRP - but, Shane has been straight up and it was easy to make the deal.

Hey AKfish,

From one 5m guy to another; ya did good, very good. About a year and a half ago I was in almost the exact same situation as you; 4720 vs 5000 series. I bought the 5m and have zero regrets.

AKfish,
Congrats on the tractor. I don't think you'll be sorry. I know you'll enjoy it. After it gets there, try to set aside a little time and let us know what you think of it.
Just remember, it takes a while for a diesel to reach operating temperature and the heater to start working. ;) But, it's still better to be in a cold cab than to face the weather without one. Besides, you should have a block heater with that cold weather package, right? Just plug it in the night before and it should be all warm and toasty. :D
