Not much tractoring to do right now, so here's where my trusty little 790 rests between workouts /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: New Camera - Truck Shot

My poor truck is forced to sit outside since we bought the tractor. There is actually a lesson in this photo...

Several years ago we added a den on to our house (to the left in the next photo). Did all the work ourselves including the excavating. Rented a Bobcat with backhoe attachment. All went just fine until I decided to haul away some of the spoils. I used the Bobcat to load my truck. Imagine the scenerio... bucket full of earth, ever-so-slight grade down to my truck, slowing as I eased up to dump. Just the right combination to tip that machine right into the side of my truck /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif It crushed the entire bed side and the tailgate like it wasn't even there. After I got through swearing and banging my head against every wall I could find, I used the Bobcat to push the bed side back into place. Also got the tailgate to work, though it looks pretty crummy. Maybe one year I'll fix it, in the meantime it's a great work truck /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: New Camera - House Shot

Here's our current house and yes, that's snow. Not much, but it is pretty. If anyone is interested in living in the lake effect snow region of Northern Indiana, this house will be for sale sometime this spring/summer when we move to our rural home/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,
I as look out the window by your Craftmans tool chest /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif looks like you have more snow than I.

Looks like you got a good setup for storing also working on your JD and attachments.

Re: New Camera - Close Up of Tiltmeter

OK, last of my "test" shots. I wanted to see what the zoom does so here's a close up of my tiltmeter mounted to the hood of my tractor. I'm not thrilled with this mount but the FEL grill guard vibrated too much.

We need either more snow or no snow. Not much to keep the tractor busy with this little bit /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

That looks like one of my first pictures with a digital camera. Took it with the door open. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif Which gave me a very dark tractor. I usually complain about the ones with JD tractors in them, that there is too much green. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif But with yours there's too much black. But with the digital camera you can go out and take another picture and repost it. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif I take as many as 10 different pictures before I find the one that looks good. This is the one feature I like best about digital cameras. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Consider it an unlimited supply of Free film and developing for the life of the camera... /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Also try using "just" the optical zoom on the your camera first Rob... if you notice using the digital zoom... shows all those "jaggedness" on the curved/diagonal items, like hoses, etc.

My camera has a spot metering option which I use almost all the time. This allows me to focus on the primary subject of the photo and take the light readings from that. The alternative, which is usually the default, is the camera will use the entire scene being photographed for setting the speed and the f stop. When there's a bright light source, e.g., a back lit subject, this can result in dark pictures.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'm still getting used to this camera. It does have spot metering, but I'm not sure yet where it "looks". Also have found the flash to be useless beyond about 8 feet.

It is fun to take the pictures and delete the bad ones though /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

There should be two brackets { } in the center of the viewfinder/LCD. Whatever is between the 2 brackets is where the camera looks to compute f stop and shutter speed when in spot metering mode. When not in spot metering mode, the camera use an average of everything in the viewfinder/LCD. Using an overall average when there's a very bright, or very dark, spot is what causes a problem.

How's this shot? I took a bunch more but I won't post them all. I think I've found the metering spot, it's just not as well identified as my 35mm. You can also see how I manage to tuck my tractor, FEL, rotary cutter and box scraper all into one stall of our garage. It's snug but it works /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,
just looking at your tires on your 790. Are those R1's or R4's. I have R4's on my 790. If those are R1's, how well do they work in snow & Mud?

sg, those are R1s I have on my 790. They are great in mud, OK in snow unless there is ice under it and they can really do a number on finished lawn. I was most impressed with them when pulling a disc last fall. I had it set for a pretty aggressive cut and the tires dug right in. I have a lawn tractor for finish mowing so the ag tires work just fine for me. How do you like your R4s /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob
Now you have lots of green and yellow. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Nice looking tractor and implements. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rob,
I like the R4's great. They tread softly on the turf, but still dig in quite well when using the FEL or boxblade. I am going to get them filled next week, though. I have a lot of FEL work to do and I think I could dig in a little better with the extra weight. Great lookin tractor!

I've been considering filling my tires as well. I can get Rim-Guard in this area and it seems like a decent choice. What are you going to fill with? How much weight do you expect to add? Do you have one piece rims or adjustable? Seems I've seen 790s with both. I've got one piece. Go GREEN /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: New Camera - Close Up of Tiltmeter

ROB: VERY nice looking home, i just bought a digital camera yesterday, took a few shots but way to large to post. have to change some setting i think. the close up of tilt meter was great, trying to impress us with the reflection on the hood?/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

 / New Camera - Tractor Shot #19
Nice pics. There's several things that you can do to compensate for backlight. Metering is probably the best. You can also see if your camera has a backlight mode. The last thing that I try is forcing the flash. I usually do this even on sunny days as it wipes out any shadows on faces, etc.

Re: New Camera - Close Up of Tiltmeter

Thanks Frank. I was all set to make some off-handed comment about the shiny hood until I took another look at the picture. That is pretty shiny /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I guess I cleaned it up better than I remembered /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

On my camera I have three "quality" levels. I've been posting with the lowest level. The others are too big. I got an HP 318. What did you get /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
