Canopy New Canopy

William, my canopy added no more than an inch and a half to the height of my ROPS. See http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=custom&Number=66006&Search=true&Forum=All_Forums&Words=Wells Ag Company&Match=Entire Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=6months&Main=60378 from last month to get information about the company; Wells Ag Company. I haven't seen a canopy I liked as well as mine; it's a tough one, and the frame on the bottom side gave me a place to mount a rear view mirror, two tiltmeters, work lights front and rear, and the toggle switch for the extra lights. And it cost me $295, but that was installed by the dealer at the time I bought the tractor. I had a choice (same price) of the steel painted to match the tractor (which I have) or unpainted diamond plate aluminum. Now if I could just remember where I posted pictures a long time ago, since I don't have them on my computer anymore . . ../w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Very good, Kevin. You're obviously better at "searching" on here than I am./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif The canopy came with a nice black molding around the edge, but after I scraped it loose on trees a couple of times and put it back, I finally just removed all of it./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Bird,
I have a few questions:

1. Is the front of the canopy higher than the back? or is it level with the tractor?

2. Can you tow your tractor on a trailer without any problems, or having the wind catch it? Do you have to tow it with the tractor backwards on the trailer?

Thanks for the info!

I'm with Bird. I also bought a Wells Ag canopy. I have the diamond plate verson. My local dealer tried to get me to get a fiberglass one. I knew that it wouldn't take long for me to get it hit. I didn't want fiberglass for that reason. The Wells Ag canopy is the best constructed canopy that I have seen that meets my needs. And by the way, I only took three days to put the first bend in it. The nice part was that I could straighten most of it right back out.

BIRD,
can you tell us how thick the material is on your steel canopy? i must say you sure have a
neat, and tidy shop, i wish mine looked that good.

Von, I had to go out there and do some measuring. I was thinking it was just about level, but it's one inch higher at the very front than the very back edge. And I've never loaded a tractor on the trailer backwards; always pull it forward and 70 mph has been no problem.

William, I never asked about the gauge of the metal; never thought about it, but I know it's stiff enough I can't straighten the bent edges even with pliers. So I just now measured and according to my calipers it's just 1/16" thick.

Jerry, I guess the dealers in different places do things differently. When I asked my dealer about a canopy, he promptly told me he'd get whatever I wanted, but that he could put a Wells Ag Company steel or aluminum canopy on the tractor for $100 less than the genuine Kubota canopy and said they were so popular that he just never sells a Kubota canopy. We were talking on the phone at the time, so I guess you could say I bought a pig in a poke, just from his oral description, but he sure led me the right way. Of course, the fact that Wells Ag Company is just a little ways up the road from my Kubota dealer means no shipping costs for him, and he didn't have to order from Kubota and wait on it to come, so that might make a difference, too.

My selling dealer sells Wells Ag. And he also sells others but the Wells is a better canopy. His other canopies were also higher priced. I paid the same price as you, but I live a long way from were they are made. I would never go fiberglass, because it wouldn’t last a year. I like the idea of insulation and a full frame on the Wells Ag. too. Sometimes I really wonder about my local dealer.
