New Cherry Picker

Nice set up Timber. I have been going to do something like that for a few years now and never got one of them "round to it things"! I like your idea better then what I had planned.

Looks good, but be sure to add LOT'S of weight to the front of the tractor!! I can easily see the leverage factor tipping the front end up into the air. Also, considering the size of the steel frame the picker is made with, that little drawbar it's bolted to looks pretty skimpy. The drawbar's greatest strength is in the horizontal plane as in pulling heavy loads, not vertical as in supporting heavy loads. It should work fine though as long as you don't ask too much of it.

I would be worried about the drawbar failing. The torque multiplication from the long moment arm is going to put a lot of force on it. Might be fine, but keep an eye on it just in case!

I am not that concerned about it. I am considering a set of wheels under it. I put this together for a specific task. I am setting large stones into place in my water garden. I find it unlikely for the draw bar to fail but anything is possible.

I think I am going to make a dolly wheels for this application. I will modify a large swivel caster to these wheels and mount it under the draw bar

I'm not the greatest welder but that doesn't stop me from making stuff

Nice work....Hey, my dad always said, while its good to get an education, there is no replacement for hands on. Talking or reading about welding wont make you better...but burn 100lbs of rod and you'll get the hang of it:thumbsup:

Well I am almost finished with the mods to the cherry picker. I added some chains and turnbuckles to support some of the side to side movement

I modified some caster wheels to help support some of the wt moving some of the loads around. I have 1 more to make for the other side
