Mike,

I've been playing around with the settings on the monitor. I don't need no stinking manual!! I'm a guy. Come on! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Seriously, I did try resetting the monitor settings to the defaults, but it made no diference. I still think if I just continue to "tweak" things a little, I'll get it.

Thanks for the suggestion. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Did you try Firefox, yet? It is based on the Mozilla platform as is Netscape. I am using Netscape and I like it a LOT better than IE. One thing that drove me nuts about IE is, if I went to a secure site it would literally take IE forever to connect to the site. When it did I could see the little lock symbol change to the locked position. Whenever I had to go to a secure site, I just cringed. Netscape handles secure sites much quicker and better. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This thread has sure gotten long! I don't remember, and if you already mentioned it sorry, but do you get display problems when not using IE?

Jay,

Apparently my display problems were due to corrupted file(s) in IE. Once I downloaded IE 6 SPI, the screen problems were eliminated. And I think that the color problems and not seeing the Forum headers are just a matter of tweaking the settings.

My biggest problem with trying something like Firefox, which I would be more than happy to try out, is that the computer is actually my wife's business computer. She and 2 other ladies use it more than I do, so you might say there is some resistance to any kind of change. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif So unless something drastically wrong happens that is directly connected to IE , there is no way trying something else will fly. No matter how much better it might make things. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So for now, the major problem has been resolved. I'll keep playing around until I get the display just where I want it, or until I get my own computer! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Garry,

Thankfully, Firefox is no where near as intrusive as your typical Microsoft product. The entire application is installed into a sigle directory for the executables, and another single directory for data. I believe that the only registry modification would be if you say "yes" when Firefox asks you if you would like to use it as the default browser.

In my most humble opinion, you can safely install Firefox for trial purposes, with no risk to the functionality of the computer.

About a couple months ago (you may remember my thread), I got a real bad hijacker/virus. Aren't they lovely? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I am convinced that because I was using IE that my computer became so infected. IE is the most targeted browser for things such as malware and hijackers. Those things are coded for it. Because IE is so "deeply" installed in the system, the lovely hijacker/virus I picked up also infected Media Player. Wmplayer.exe would download and install that nasty little bugger! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif If I were using something like Netscape or Firefox at the time, I believe I wouldn't have had to go through the hassle of reinstalling Windows and everything I needed.

Garry,

Like the others said, FireFox (or another browser) is probably going to solve all of your problems and maybe even some you don't know you have! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

The security problems with IE (and Outlook, and Windows, and ...) has just gotten to a point were you can't trust it anymore. Even the US homeland security agency recommends that people don't use IE!/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

For my part, I'm pretty much trying to stay away as much as possible from any MS products... It's not easy but certainly possible and cheaper too!/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

After I thought I had removed the hijacker/virus I decided to reinstall IE. I opened Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs. I then double clicked the IE selection. I chose the repair option. During the process the dumb thing popped up an error message. After that point, I tried reopening Control Panel. When the window opened nothing showed up inside! I then clicked My Computer. Nothing! Something had erased ALL my icons within those windows when I was trying to repair IE. Also, for some strange reason I couldn't search for Files or Folders, either. At that point I decided to reinstall Windows.
