I have thought about blocking them, but I don’t know for sure if I should.

One is very easy to get to to block the other will be a chore.

Doing anything in an attic during July is a chore.

IMO the more air flow the better. My last home's unfinished attic had two double hung windows, one in each gable end, along with perforated soffit and ridge vent. Every Spring I'd go up in the hot attic and open the windows up to insert an expandable screen in the opening and immediately noticed the cooling breeze.

This...I think proper attic ventilation is often overlooked by many builders!
