Took a few days this weekend to work on our newest addition to the deer stand collection. This one needs some minor trim work but is pretty much ready to go. Sattelite dish is for decoration only but sure has the neighbors talking. Orange squares are required by Wis DNR and we will need to block it up and take one wheel off.
Its 8 x 8 and 7ft high ceilings. Decided to go with a flat roof to keep the wind from blowing it much. The floor and roof was framed with rough sawn 2x6's and the brother in law could stand on it while he fastened down the tin. Not worried about the snow load.

Thanks

Does it double as an ice fishing shack in the winter?:D
Nice work!

The green one in the background seems more fitting for a stand in the woods.

What differentiates between a deer stand that looks like a house and hunting from the real house in Wisconsin? Just the dab of orange paint? (plus don't have to remove a wheel from the house :) )

Thanks all. Its fun to build these and I get to take my kids with and they can play with toys on the floor. DNR frowns on shooting them out the living room window though. had a buddy do that and his neighbor reported him.

The green one I built for my mom and dad whose health isnt the best. Its easier for them to hunt as long as they dont argue to much. We named that one the love shack.

........

How is there any difference from what you built? Size? Style of windows? Heat source? Running water?

Just curious here, but I don't see where the DNR can draw a line that one is unlawful and the "shack" or "stand" shown is lawful.

Want to trade - One homemade stand for another - Seems fair :D

Looks like you know how to stay comfortable - nice work

Two things:

1. Why is the orange paint required? Never heard of that.
2. One seldom hears trim and deer stand in the same sentence:)

Thanks everybody. Its 8x8 and built on running gear so it is considered a slow moving vehicle by the DNR. If you take one wheel of then its inmobile so then its legal. The orange rule came out this year that any ground blind has to be marked with a 12 in square on all four sides. Guess somebody shot through one last year, mistaken it for a deer.

I bow hunt on another property and us the standard ladder stands but when i gun hunt near home we use these. We do stay in them all day-everyday of the season which is only nine days up here.

Cant shoot out of any live in structure. This includes hunting cabins.

I did about the same thing, but then I put mine up on treated 16 foot 6x6's! I can look down into the swamp like an Eagle now!

Well, we got the stands completed and took them out back and set them up. I also built two woodstoves out of an old hot water heater tank to keep everybody warm. Both turned out great and looking forward to using them.

I've looked at the regs and it seems that it's fine to shoot from a house -- as long as you have permission and are no nearer than 100yd from any other houses. What am I missing?

on edit - found it. Orange is only required on public lands.

also found

shoot a firearm within 100 yards of a building
devoted to human occupancy while
on lands you do not own (including
public lands and public waters)
without the permission of the owner or occupant
of that building.

So, I still don't get what the neighbor was complaining about or
what the DNR was grumpy about.... unless he was burglarizing
the house at the time...

Nice job!! I know I wouldn't mind spending the whole 9 days hunting out of it! Good luck to you folks with deer hunting. You know you will have to post picks of any bucks you kill out of it, right??

Not to big I guess - 150 lb. Once in a while I even get a deer thats bigger than me. :)

Didn't need any excuse at all to show my deer - sorry.
Last season 210 lb - best deer of my life.

Its funny what the differences are in a deer stand from one area to the next. Here its usually a lock on or climber or a fairly plain shooting house. The heat would be nice though.
