Finally got a dirt scoop and it does more than I expected. Dug heavy, wet dirt/clay around my pond with easeand will be doing so all summer. If you can't afford a fel, this thing is a cheap alternative. I just wish there was a way to curl the back end up besides hand cranking the upper lift arm. Anybody know of an automatic turning upper arm? picture attached.

If you have external hydraulic available, you can put a hydraulic top link on.

Chris

I too am FEL challenged and have thought of a dirt scoop.

But your very question also has me wondering.

OK I can back into and pick up a nice pile of dirt, but if I try and drive across the yard, is it all going to bump out??

Any pics of it in action?

Cheers

The material I've dug so far doses'nt spill out at all while driving. You may loose a little when raising your 3pth though. I am looking into a hydrulic upper link so I can "curl" the lip in before raising it. I'll post some pics in action soon.

I used my 30" scoop all weekend to fill in washouts around gates and the barn. You may loose a couple pounds of dirt as you lift the scoop, but more or less it stays in. I have mine adjusted, so that after the scoop is lifted all the way, it is slightly angled back a bit. Works good. I'm guessing I'm moving about 500 lbs of material per scoop.

If you get one, pay attention to greasing the slip release lever.. makes life alot easier.

I have the KingKutter 30 inch scoop and use it quite a lot. I used it yesterday to move a chunk of concrete about 5 feet long and a foot and a half wide. It was sunk into the ground. I was able to angle the scoop to get under and lift it up, then backed up some more to get it up over the top of the front of the scoop. It balanced enough for me to pick it up and put it on a tilt bed trailer to haul it to the dump. It was heavy and I had a hard time keeping the front of the tractor on the ground. A hydraulic top link would have made this much easier and I’m about to order one from Gearmore in California. Follow the threads below for more info on hydraulic top links:

You will need to have rear remote hydraulics installed on your tractor if you don’t already have it.
