Tractor
Looking at present
I have been looking for my first tractor for months. I have pretty much decided on a Kioti after looking at all brands. I am interested in a 40-50HP tractor and have settled on likely the DK45. I can't find a used one so was shopping dealers and recently noted a DK55 used, low hours (approx 100) in good shape. Any thoughts on the two tractors? What is a reasonable price for either? The best deals I have found are:

New 2012 DK45se with loader: 20k
Used 2008 DK55 with loader and 100 hours: 18k

Thanks for the input.

Don't know about the price on the DK55, but the DK 45se price is in line with what I got last week.

The 2012 will come with a 4 year warranty - the 2008 won't. Also, there may be a size difference and the 45 may get you into smaller places...

I just bought a DK55 with 231 hours on it for $12,500; it came with a factory installed loader and a six foot bush hog. I have no idea how I ever lived with out it. My neighbors are "green" with envy. It is a wonderful machine!

I do believe the DK55 will be a gear model, don't think it comes with HST. I would get the DK45 with HST and the 4 year warranty. :)

Yep,no HST that was my deciding factor on the 50 over the 55. CJ

Where did you find yours?

If the DK55 is a cab model and the DK45 is open, I would pop for the cab one. I also think you won't regret getting more hp for less green.

They are both open station. Is 18k too high for a 4 year old DK55?

The hours aren't a problem, but I know after the experience I'm having with my FarmTrac that a warranty is definitely a major consideration. Hopefully you never need to use the warranty, but if you do???? FWIW, the Kioti warranty was a big factor in my choosing to go that way I am.

I don't think it is a bargain but for a tractor with only 100hrs it isn't unreasonable either.

The DK55 and DK45se are really pretty different tractors. The 55 obviously has more HP and a bit stronger loader but is an older design. The 45se has HST, warranty and also a lot of features like electrically activated 4wd and PTO. Not sure if the 55 has electric or manual PTO and 4wd.

For all around utility work I would go with the 45se. For farm work (plow, till etc) I might choose the 55.

I think with 100+ acres I would be looking the DK 55.

Can you use a DK55? It a bigger tractor than the 45, 1000lbs heavier etc. More like a farm utility tractor. I don't like the idea of a single dry disc clutch but maybe they are fine if your not a loader maniac.
If I was planning on doing hay I would've got something like the DK55, but for just general hobby loader stuff I like the HST on the smaller tractor.

I decided to go with the DK55. I renegotiated and got it down to 16.5 k. For that difference in price, the bigger tractor seemed like an obvious choice. I hope I don't regret it but in tractors seem like strorage sheds...can they really be too big?

Thanks for all your input. I may post some pics once I get the tractor if I can figure out how.

Sounds like a great deal! The 55 will be a nice capable machine.

At the price you paid that is an excellent deal. They are a lot more expensive than that new.

There is a big difference between the DK55 and the DK 40/45/50 machines. It is a much larger machine and fits in the Ag utility class. As much as I like HST and wet clutches over dry, there are hundreds of thousands of Ag tractors out there with a dry clutch that have managed to get the job done just fine and run well for thousands of hours. I've had a few myself. I still have several older tractors with dry clutches that get used for utility work or raking hay.

If you get pallet forks you will really appreciate the self leveling loader on he DK55.

Congratulations!
