Today we started running utilities to our new house site. First up is running 640' of electric primary to a new transformer. Its a little much to dig with my little John Deere so I sub contracted the dirt work. Observe the Cat excavator in the pic.

Water table is high at our place, this time of year is optimum for digging as its as low as its gonna get at about 5'. We also have a rather strong flowing creek to cross, the plan right now is to dig a trence at right angles then dam the water flow....hope that works. We'll post a few pics as the job progresses.

For electric only, would they have had the big spike deal to put the wire in, rather than all that trenching, just pull it in deep. Often takes a cat to pull it, but way quicker than all that digging & refilling. Esp with your water situation, can just be pulled through the creek.

That is how they did me main feed, basically a big huge chisel plow point.

Its high voltage primary, I think 4000volts, which needs to be in conduit with 5' of earthen cover. The creek crossing will have to have 24" concrete over the top of the conduit in case it ever gets dredged.

We're digging close to the future driveway which will give me lots of seat time using one of my smaller tractors for grading. Really looking forward to that. Also gonna dig a couple ponds.

Different regs in different areas, what they put in for me was also high voltage, at least 4000v. over 42 inches deep, direct burial wire, knifed in. (Altho 'wire' doesn't do it justice!) Thanks for the explination.

Hey Syncro,
Thanks for the pictures, some real nice property! Do you plan on backfilling that trench with the Massey? If so, you will be be gettin some serious seat time by the looks of it!
I think its appropriate that you posted all that on my 54th birthday /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Naw Scotty, it probably could be done but would be a little much for the little tractor. I will however use the 1240 for finish touch up on the final driveway. When we're all done I should have well over 1000 ft of driveway plus a new bridge. Really looking forward to all of it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pic-1 The temporary dam across the creek. The relief trench is not shown, but there was a lot of water being diverted.
