If you want to operate equipment, especially hay equipment and tractors, you can come over to my place. I live a lot closer than Richard does to you. Probably just around the corner.

I'd bet that a few hours of seat time and you'd have enough. Especially when you have to put squares on the wagons and in the barns!!!!!!!!!!!

Who knows, maybe I'll take you up on that offer Daryl. I get to Detroit every few weeks.

That is the one part of the haying process I do have experience with. In my younger days, any kid willing to put up hay pretty much was guaranteed a job at certain times of the year /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Most everyone knows where the new Cabaella's is in Dundee, Michigan. I live about 3 miles south and 2 miles west of the store. We actually have hay on ground within 1 mile of the store abutting M-50.

Hey, I've been to that Cabellas. It's a bit out of my way as I normally visit the North suburbs of Detroit but who knows. And what a coincidence... we live just a couple of miles from Lunkers . Not quite as large as Cabellas but similar fare /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We have two seasons here; mud and dust.
Some of my "roads" still need a few tons of gravel to say the very least....

/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif you caught me. I let the plastic on till it about fell off and then put one of those cheapo seat covers on. I plan to still be running this tractor until one of us gives it up so its good to at least try and keep the inside clean. The outside is hopeless even with a regular power washing.

We had a "kicker" on the back of our square bailer that threw the bales into the wagon. It consisted of two parallel belts, powered by an 8hp motor. As the bale came out of the baler chute, it went between the spinning belts and got thrown into the wagon. If you cranked up the belt rpm's, you could throw it over the baler. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It was a real time and back saver and could toss about 90 bales per wagon. We typically would bale and put up about 1300 square bales a day. That's pretty good considering the hay wasn't ready to bale until late morning (because of dew).

Now, if we could have only found an easier way to stack it in the barn!

Like the old saying about assembling a crew of people to do a job: You want a strong guy to do the physical labor, a smart guy to do the math, and a lazy guy to figure out an easier way to do it.

We have a JD kicker baler with a hydraulic thrower on it that we took off this year. It's awfully dangerous. We though about using it as a catapult to trow people into the swimming pool at our last party, but we were afraid the sudden acceleration would crush peoples spines!!

With the trpwer dialed up to 9 which is the highest setting, you can throw a 55 puond bale completely over the first wagon and onto the second wagon,that is, if the strings won't come off!!

A friend of mine has a baler that bands about 10 or 12 bales together and drops them. He then picks the bundle with the fork lift attachment on his tractor. A lot simpler than when I helped bale as a kid. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That unit is called a Bale Bandit. www.balebandit.com They are pretty neat but pretty pricey too. About 24 grand.
