Well here is a few observations from what little I have used it so far, all mileage figuires are off the dash readout. 12.8 mpg on the highway at 65 cruise on.

That's what I get in stop and go city traffic, in my 06 F350 Crew, long bed diesel. Maybe I shouldn't tell you that ;)

Well let us know what the mileage is pulling the gooseneck. I have my 05 King Ranch Powerstroke for sale, and I am very seriously considering purchasing a V10. However, I want to know the power, most importantly, the torque that the V10 has compared to a Diesel.

Why don't you just look in a brochure or on Ford's website, they have the torque listed for both? Probably somewhere around 450-500 on the V-10 and 650 on the diesel.

Not only does the diesel have a lot more torque, but it comes up to peak torque a lot lower in RPM's than a V-10. That gets the load moving quicker & more efficiently. That's one of the reasons they get so much better fuel economy.

Yep, that's about the same with me. 13.1 MPG in awful stop & go with 1,500lbs of tools in the back or pulling a trailer. I'd bet I would get 19-20 on the highway based on a few of the hand calcualted highway trips I've made..

Sweet truck chh,

Everything I have heard about the V-10 has been positive for towing/torque... once you get it broken in you should see some improvements in mileage over brand spankin new.:)

You towing heavy with it fresh out of the crate/lot then?

Course once the boxes are on, coupled with the flatbed & DRW... can't expect all that extra wind resistance to be an "apples to apples" with the regular bed truck mileage (I have 07 350 but with the 6.0,9' flatbed, boxes).:(

Thats a beauty!

I think its showing 165 miles on it this AM. I should be towing some heavier stuff next week so we shall see. It doesn't really look like there is a diesel "advantage"(in practical use) in towing and fuel mileage on the '08 trucks. I know the earlier trucks did better, but I'm not hearing many people brag on fuel mileage with the new trucks.

My son that works at the dealership just sent me a text message that my old Dodge is headed for auction.

The new diesel trucks still get ~20% better fuel mileage than big block gas in stop/go, but that's offset by higher diesel prices. Highway mileage is much better for diesel.

Hook up a heavy trailer and then the diesel advantage gets greater.

Well your really not telling me much Builder, I've been towing gooseneck stock trailers (on the highway;) ) since I was 16 and equipment trailers shortly afterwards. I owned the Dodge diesel for 10 years and that was to replace a '89 F250 with a 5.4. Yea I bought into the line that a fuel injected 5.4 would pull like a '84 460 with a carb. Not hardly. I really have not got enough mileage on the gasser yet to tell what it will really do, but the trip yesterday was with nearly 10,000 lbs of calves on a hilly 25 mile trip. The Dmax following me didn't keep up:D . As I stated previously the mileage is less than my old diesel, but overall not by as much as I might have thought and the towing power is there.

My BIL has a F 250 with the 7.3 diesel that gets 20 on the highway. As you can probably guess he hasn't got 4wd or is it geared to tow heavy trailers. I have never owned one that got that type of mileage.

From the dealers I have talked to and from what my son and his friends in the auto business are telling me, new diesel truck sales are softening rapidly on fuel price concerns and the economic downturn. If the prices of diesel fuel continues to be higher than gas and the trend continues trade in values will start to drop on used diesel pu's.

Congratulations on your decision. I've been the diesel route, but I am really pleased with the F350 V10 that I bought back in 04. Yours has around 50 more horse power than mine and mine is plenty strong. I'm out west and I believe that our hills will match any in the country and I have not been disappointed in performance. I did the math back when I was shopping based on diesel being 30-40 cents a gallon less and could not justify the 5-6 k more for a diesel and higher maintenance cost. Boy has that decision paid off now. Trade in is not an issue in my life, I get 8-10 years out of a vehicle.
