Buying Advice New farmer

/ New farmer #21
I agree that a JD 4300 is too small and for that age too much money. A friend has a JD 4300 used for mowing, tilling, and light duties.

I would look towards a 60 HP tractor at least. You won't regret the power and weight once you have it. A 5075E is a great choice but out of your budget. There are plenty of used tractors out there.

I have roughly 70 or so acres I maintain. About 20 are woods, 40 are in set aside for mowing once a year. The mowing is contracted out. My little L3540 does a good job of maintaining the rest such as pastures and stuff that needs to be moved. But I'd love to have double the HP.

Every now and then I find myself borrowing my neighbors JD 6430.
