New feature suggestion - member polls.

Once in a while a poster asks for a poll of users of a particular whatever. Feedback on subjects as diverse as toothbars to whole TLBs...

Some folks reply then the thread gets buried. Others never add their input, and even if they do, there is no rhyme or reason as to the responses.

What if there was a poll section, where registered members could respond by filling a form and results could be tabulated. Of course, the results wouldn’t be scientific, but still would be useful…

I've seen this feature on other message boards. I would love to see it here, but I'm also one not to volunteer more work for Muhammad and Ibrahim.

Mike wouldn't it be easier if our profiles were somewhat more structured and simple queries could be run? If you wanted to know how many users had a "brand X" tractor, or toothbar, or whatever, then the simple query would be run and very quickly the results would be ready.

Maybe you don't recall, but there was this feature in the past. You could do a search on a persons profile to find out, for example, how many TC33's were in Wisconsin, or how many TBN members lived in Indiana. Any information that was in a members profile could be searched.

Muhammad has indicated that this feature was going to be restored. I think if we are patient, it will be available soon. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As far as Mike's suggestion goes, I think he was suggesting having the ability to get information on a more "what's the consensus here?" kind of thing. Like, "How many people think JD should change their color scheme?", or "What percentage of TBN members want to see Junkman on Monster Garage?"

Like Andy said, there are discussion forums where a poster can create a survey or poll right in the thread. I think lawnsite.com is one of those.

I like the idea of having the ability to do custom, "unscientific" surveys or polls. I'm just not sure what the easiest way to do it would be. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

We will probably be phasing in more polls soon. While it's technically feasible to allow users to start their own polls, we don't allow that because of the potential moderation load increase that polls could cause.

Surveys, we have done in the past and will do more of in the future.

User search will return. I promise! We've had several key upgrades on the table for a couple months... my guess is we'll proceed with them in a couple of weeks.

Muhammad - Is anything being done with member polls? I, for one, would like to see a simple poll of members on 1) what they use currently to move snow, and 2) what they would prefer to use to move snow. Discussion threads on this subject go in many differing directions, and engage a very limited number of active members. Could a weekly poll be set up that greets a member as he/she enters the TBN home page? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What about users submitting requests for surveys to you, and you could then select what you consider the more interesting or useful requests and make them available for voting?
