Looks great. Personally I like to have the down pressure and not the chain but its ones personally preference I guess. Before I put the recoil shock on mine I would get snow building up on the spring adjusters and when the blade would trip the snow and sometimes ice would flick up on the hood so I put the covers over the adjusters. Later on I made the brackets and installed the double acting shock which solved that problem.
The Arctic blade I'm using I bought new back in 1994 so you'll have yours a very long time.
Looks great
I probably would have went with a fixed mount plow if my driveway wasn't on such a steep hill. Unlike the chain mount designs, there's an abundance of really nice plow options with SSQA mounts. Although, having used a free floating design in the past to plow my driveway, I knew it was going to work well for my particular needs.
I definitely took your lead with getting the recoil shock after reading your write-up on it a while back. I had Arctic include it, and other than having to drill one hole for the top mount, it bolted right up. It's a nice design and it's been working well whenever I trip the blade.
Hopefully, I will have the plow as long as you! I think it's a great design and I'm really glad I decided to go with it. It's been working so well for the last few snow storms that I haven't even had a chance to try out my new snowblower yet!
Wow, that looks great. I like the skids on the QA plate to keep the loader arms from dragging. This definitely looks like a good set-up for someone who wants "float".
Thanks. It's been working really well for me, and I've already used the skids on the SSQA mount a few times already given the steep angle of my driveway. (I can see why they included them.)
In my opinion, it's a very well thought out design - I'd definitely recommend this setup for someone who wants to go with a free floating plow design.
Really nice looking setup, must have been $$$
One thing I don't like, it sit's so far from the mounting plate.
Surprisingly, it was the lowest priced plow option that I looked at (even after shipping it from Canada.) The only way I could have saved money was to buy a used plow and build the mount myself.
While it does hang out a bit past the mounting plate, it really hasn't been an issue. If anything, it's a been little easier for me to see when plowing (since I'm not the tallest person, so it's tough for me to see past the hood.)
Nice plow assembly.
One suggestion on your Shelterlogic building; get some zipper lube and put it on ALL the zippers BEFORE using them. This is the one weak point of these structures; if the zipper comes apart the door(s) are toast. West Marine sells zipper lube and it may be available from other sources as well.
Thanks. That's *great* advice! I will definitely pick up some zipper lube and apply it to all the zippers when I first install it. (FWIW, the Shelterlogic finally got delivered about a week ago (after waiting 3 months for it), so it probably won't be until spring before I get it installed now.)
